I love D2 even more than D1 (which I also think is fantastic). Although I think I may be biased by the voice actor who was the voice of Garrett in the original Thief games which are among my favorite games. I tend to feel like D2 is the true Thief 4.
If it didn't run at a whopping 0.5 fps half the time, it could have been better than the first game.
D2 could have been as good or even better but imo they made too many mistakes.
But D1 is the better gameplay. I think the more advanced game engines sacrifice gameplay for visual accuracy. D1 has a certain minecraft/lego quality, everything is built in 1 foot increments and plays well.
