Dishonored
Ran out of virtual memory
Hey,

My Dishonored has worked fine for a couple of missions, however, I'm now halfway the bridge mission and can run around and do anything, but when I kill anyone, the game crashes and I receive an error stating it ran out of virtual memory and a list of missing files (also reporting Kernel.dll problems).
I've 4GB RAM, 80GB free HDD of which 4.4GB is assigned to virtual memory.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks!

There are a few games like this one & Rage that need a bigger Virtual Memory Cache.

Go to (Control Panel\System & Security\System) & click on Advanced system settings.

Then click the Advanced tab on the (System Properties) box that has popped up. Then click on the "settings" button in the Performance section.

Now another box has popped up (Performance Options). Now click on the Advance tab again & make sure "Programs" are selected in the first section (Processor schedualing). It should already be that way by default. Now click on the "change" box in the Virtual Memory section.

Now another box has popped up (Virtual Memory). Uncheck the box that say "Automatically manage paging file space for all drives" After that look down & select "System managed size". Now click ok on each box until you are prompted to restart you PC. Then restart your PC. Now the game should work.

If you want you can also use the custom setting in Virtual Memory instead of system run, & create your own size of cache.

This helped me on my older system back when I didn't have enough RAM or VRAM. Good luck!

Tried both, neither seem to have worked much. The 4.4GB Virtual Memory was already custom set, just for fun I set it to 8GB. It might've delayed the crash after a kill with about half a second (the blood looks to be sprayed out a little more), but the crash is still there.
Apparently trying to load a previous save also doesn't work right.
I've also already tried reinstalling the game, which didn't help.

May have found a solution, had this trouble aswell and tried eveything on this discussion, nothing worked, however i did try and verify game files and it found one file corrupted and reaquired it, runs like a charm now. to verify game files you need to:
1. right click on Dishonored in your game library and select properties
2. from there you select 'local files' tab at the top
3. select 'VERIFY INTEGERITY OF GAME FILES...'
then follow the prompts it gives you and leave it for a bit while it does its business.
I hope this helps

I’ll continue the yearly trend to let future people know that RAZORcOLa’s solution also worked for me. Failed to verify three files and reacquired them. I wasn’t even able to start a new game beforehand.
