You really need to ask why English is spelled differently in different areas? Because a couple hundred years ago some American politician wanted to further differentiate us from the English... and that's about it. He saved us from having to write or type a couple extra letters for various words, because they wanted to at the time.

The English spell many words with an "ou" such as flavour, colour, Dishonoured, and we don't. There are other differences in grammar as well.

So am I, whenever else I spell the word I use 'ou', but since this is a title, whenever I'm talking about the game I skip the 'u' and write Dishonored.

Americans, several centuries ago, were poor immigrants. Every little bit of luggage space had to be paid for, and all those extra letters in words like "honour" and "valour" and "colour" and "aluminium" just weren't important enough to bring.

Here's an almost funny one...
Well, when people casually ask why 'muricans tend to spell some words without the "u" letter in them, their usual answer is: "Because we don't care about u!"
Yet we still end some past tenses with "-t" instead of "-ed". Also, some people such as me think some UK spellings just look better like "theatre".

I can't stand it when I see people type "Learnt."

same reason people spell word 'flavour' or 'flavor', its just that most people forget that when it comes to the title of something, you stick with the original spelling
While I like "theatre", to me "centre" looks like someone vomitted on a Scrabble board. I don't give a rat's arse which spelling of "liter" you use.
I love what this thread has become XD

Lol, I don't know. It just looks like they are butchering the word "learned," and it's also the way Southern people (in the US) would say the word, so that's probably why.... I dislike the southern accent.

Both fit into sentences differently. It's called having more choice.
