Bending time is interesting and allows you to annihilate the level design even more.
Possession is actually the only "balanced" ability, but it's mediocre, though it is interesting to use first time playing.
Avoid Shadow kill in any playthrough, it's buggy and boring.
Upgrading sleep darts is okay, but they would be worthless if you are going for a ghost playstyle, since they only benefit in the combat.
I would suggest upgrading bone charms capacity and the crossbow. Later you will get another OP upgrade that will make stealth even more miserable and easy, but it's up to you.
Generally speaking, just have fun and try different things!
As my personal experience, keep good use of crossbows. Instead of aiming at NPCs, you shoot at the walls or grounds to draw attention to the guards. So that you can past through heavily guarded areas. Also do some practicing on grenades, which can also be used to blow up river krusts and wooden doors. Never use pistols, they are loud and will make enemies spot you nearly instantly. Choking or using sleep darts are effective, but remember to hide the bodies. As for magic, upgrading blink can heavily reduce the difficulty, and stopping time will further trivialize the game. But if this is your first time to try ghost, they will make the game much less painful.
The most important thing to be ghost in such runs is to know the abilities and patrolling patterns of the NPCs. To be stealthy, the routes you choose are usually highly non-trivial and time-dependent. For your first run, you may abuse quick saves and quick loads to verify if your routes are practical.
