Dishonored

Any tips for a mostly no-kill run?
At the point I'm at, it seems nearly every item and skill is geared torwards solely killing others. My only options for knockouts are choke hugs and sleep darts, which is rather limiting when other viable methods like arial assassinations and sword counters should easily have a non-lethal variant.

Any thoughts? Otherwise I'm just going to go kill happy.

keep up above, get agility, teleport and sight. Try to get replenishing manna from water item and get a full freeze time power. Avoid granny rags at all costs! Granny rags leads to a stand off against her and the bottle neck gang that almost always leads to a fatality , the first, second, third, fourth kills: brake the glasses and knock him out before he kills the inspector while they are in the secret room, follow slack jaws demands to the letter and get him the safe combo, find the guy in the smokeing room who helps you abduct the lady, sneek up the tower left tower with a tesla cannon and talk to the anouncer then get the confession and brodcast it.

I tried possession and I was able to successfully abduct her that way. Though be sure to plan where you'll need to repossess Boyle out of eyesight when going down the stairs.

I would recommend watching this guy's videos for no kill/never detected run.REALLY helpful, and he uses sped up footage so you aren't watching a 45 minute video for the one tricky bit you're stuck on.

Those videos seem to do stuff in an extremely elaborate and complicated way. There are both simpler, faster and safer ways to go about it.

Why not go straight to the non-lethal+ghost world record for inspiration? Doesn't get any faster than that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlRQVSe7mBM
It also shows off some interesting glitches/tricks, like the elevator jump (to climb high walls), going out of bounds in a couple of places, and dealing with the High Overseer in a much-faster-than-usual manner.

You can complete the game without being seen and without killing anyone. But, doing so requires planning, being sneaky and clever.

If being sneaky and clever is not to your liking (and it sounds like it's not as you want flash and nifty gadgets) then go nuts and enjoy all the cool killing tools and abilities. Being a ghost and clean hands is in itself a challenge and interesting, but it's far from the only way to play.

Who cares about faster? Take your time and enjoy the game it was meant to be enjoyed. Why play a game just to show off your e-peen and glitching abilities? Wall hacking and speed runs don't really care about the game or the story. If that's what the OP wants, then by all means. But, if you want to enjoy the story and the difficulty of the game, don't do this.

And, as an aside, it can be done faster than this. This guy wasn't paying attention half the time. I know he has the WR, but he could have shaved seconds off in multiple areas. He's impressive, but he can do better.

The reason I posted it was that there's a lot to be learned from the run apart from the glitches, not to discuss whether or not speedrunning is a legitimate way of playing a game, but I want to clear out some misunderstandings here.

You clearly don't understand speedrunning if you think there's hacking and e-peen measurement involved. First of all, he runs a completely unmodified Steam version of the game. Second, people enjoy games differently, and it's not like Fripic just randomly chose to run Dishonored. No one speedruns a game they don't enjoy in the first place. And, finally, if you think the NLG speedrun is easier than taking it slow then you're horribly mistaken. At many points during the run he could lose minutes from dying or getting detected because of a single bad blink or from being just a tad too slow. If you had any idea of the amount of practice that goes into such a run you'd probably be a little more appreciative of it --- or at least a little less dismissive.

Yeah, he could have saved time in some places but that's pretty much the nature of single-segment runs. There's almost always a theoretical possibility of improvement, the problem is making it actually happen during a run. With the sheer number or things that can go wrong during such a run it's virtually impossible to get the elusive "perfect run" that all speedrunners dream of.

I realize my post sounded like I was complaining at you. Not at all. Sorry.

Just saying if the OP wants to enjoy the story, don't do what the guy in the video does ;)

I understand what you meant guys, I appreciate the assistance.
I ended up killing 25 or so guards in my first playthrough, and 9 civvies. Here's to a better run next time.

Just in case anyone wants tips on Powers/Bone Charms on a Ghost+No Kill run:
Powers - Blink Lv2, Agility Lv1, Dark Vision Lv1 and/or Bend Time Lv2. Do not waste runes upgrading Agility Lv2.
Bone Charms that are really helpful(from top priority) - Strong Arms, Swift Shadow, Fleet Fighter, Blood Ox Heart, Void Channel (DLC) , Spiritual Pool/Water of Life and Acrobat.

I just finished it with the clean hands achievment (not the ghost, unfortunately, but that wasn't what I was going for). I frequently blinked right behind someone and knocked them out. Also, in the mission where you have to kidnap that inventor, you can easily blink right to the top of his house without needing to go through all the enemies.
