Switching Corvo's sword?
Would it theoretically be possible to alter a thing or two in the config to perhaps allow equipment of other blades? It's really frustrating to me when I'm stuck with one blade, regardless of efficiency.

You can choose not to get Corvo's gear after he's taken by Daud, so you can play the last few levels with one of the assassin swords.

Yep. That's the only way. Of course, then you won't have the crossbow for the remainder of the game. You'll also lose any pistol upgrades you had before.

But, no ... nothing you can change in the configs.

The only other blade I used was the overseer's blade after Corvo wakes up in the holding pit-It's on the other table in that area-

Why would you want to switch out corvo's blade?
It would just be a reskin, and corvo's looks the best, so it would be pointless.

Corvo's blade is quite different than the assassin's blade. when you have Corvo's blade you can sheath it and still have use of powers, like blink. Something you can't do with the other one.

I've tried it for you and you can get a different weapon, for a small amount of time. If you don't pick up the Assassins' sword, the Overseer's or yours. If you get past Daud's hideout, in the next area multiple enemies carry the sword used by members of Slackjaw's Gang and some civilians. This is slightly pointless, but it's proof you can acquire any blade you want after loosing your gear.
