I would like to see my feet, on the other hand ;)
And here we have the basic issue. No matter what view the game is in there will be people who wish it was in the other. Personally I can't even imagine Dishonored in 3rd person but do agree that some games work in 3rd and others work in 1st. Neither actually "suck" (unless you get vertigo or something from 1st person) If they are done right.
Mostly, I don't have *any* console-style experience. My gaming has almost entirely been actually-first person, and the games where you're forced into 3rd pv ... the handling of the character, all the animations it has to go through to move, ugh.
There ARE good points about it, you can often judge distance much easier with a full sized avatar. I just don't care for all the fiddling around you have to do, to side up to something, touch anything (again, depends on the game) (sniper elite 3 and 4 I'm looking at you) or interact. I do like being able to just... walk up and touch stuff. First person is considerably more forgiving in that regard.
I do love the parodies on videos of what you'd actually look like if you had the 'just arms' that most 1st person games do :D I know it would be impossible to have that angle, but... meh!
