Dishonored

[SOLVED] Dishonored does not start Windows 10
This took me awhile to figure out, and I figure I should document it for future Google searches.

Dishonored will instantly crash on execution if "Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR)" is enabled on Windows 10.

To get Dishonored to run, you can either disable it globally (not recommended) or disable it only for Dishonored.

To disable Mandatory ASLR for Dishonored only, do the following:
1. Open Start Menu > Settings Gear > Update & Security
2. Click Windows Security in left panel > App & browser control
3. Scroll down and click "Exploit protection settings"
4. Click "Program settings" at the top
5. Click the "+" for Add program to customize > Choose exact file path
6. Choose "[Path\To\Steam Games]\Dishonored\Binaries\Win32\Dishonored.exe"
7. Scroll down to "Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR)"
8. Check "Override system settings" > set slider to "Off"
9. Apply & try to launch Dishonored again

I hope this helps someone save some time in the future!

Thank you so much for this. Worked a treat - I'd been tearing my hair out trying other 'solutions' for at least an hour. :100:

Hello and thank you, sadly it didn't work for me. I'm under x64 Win 10 (familly)

Hello, an older post from 2015 gave me the solution.
Steam has a Cloud for your game saves.
In Steam settings, enable the Cloud.
It allowed me to run the game.

Whether the solution was the original post or the one described by Gladiolu, I am happy you are able to enjoy your game.

This helped a lot! Thank you so much! I was so scared that I bought the game for nothing

Not working. Only activating the cloud worked. But that cannot be the solution cuz I hate the cloud and I always disable it.

EDIT: Just changed the compatibility mode of the game.exe to windows 7 and the game didnt crashed.

Hey I haven't looked into this for six years. I would try enabling/disabling cloud, Windows compatibility mode for Windows 7, disable all Windows security settings for the Dishonored exe, and/or add it to antivirus exclusions in Defender or other AV you might have.

Your issue is different than the one I was having. With mine there was no error, the game just wouldn't start. If none of these works, you could see if there is a crash dump for the file and perhaps see what was on the stack at the time of crash.

OMG - activating the Cloud has solved it for me!!!!! I've tried SO many different "solutions" and this one was THE ONE that did it! Thanks a million...
