...anyways, what worked for me was first using the sleep inducing crossbow bolts you find in a trunk on the way to Daud ... I had upgraded Corvo (your character's) mask (lets you zoom in on people and objects as far as your sight) letting me zoom in on Daud's one guard making the crossbow sleep dart to knock him out an easy one.. while I was doing that Daud was holding up a book and musing aloud with his back turned to the guard ... I used Blink to teleport right behind him then use the non lethal choke option (I didn't stop to try and carry away the unconscious body of his guard first, knock Daud out right away).
Personally I would save just before doing that and take the time to listen to all of Daud's musings even if you have to reload in order to knock him out later on... I love all the character conversation and attention to "world building", it's part of what makes this game so great :) ..
