How is the Rat Plague spread?

I couldn't find this, so I decided to ask on the forums is anyone knew.

dunno about ingame lore, I've not been very good about reading and remembering all the books and notes.
In real history, I believe it was mites and/or fleas on the rats that carried the plague.

That would be correct, but I've never figured out how the rats spread it in Dishonored, my best guess is by biting from the rats and overall contact with infected, according to the 'Tales of Dunwall' (There are a few minor inaccuracies, but it was made before Dishonored came out)

Spread it? Its the fleas man. That and the fact theres a corpse dead of the disease stuffed into every hole in the city.

The game doesn't tell you how it is spread becuase that is literally common knowledge taught in elementary/primary school science and history.

For example, the game doesn't tell you where babies come from in Dunwall, but you could probably assume they come from the same places as in real life.

Fleas was my first guess, I just didn't know if it was lore or not. Thanks for the answers, though.
