It is a stealth game.

Crouch, use your Blink power to teleport to interesting locations and go hidden in the rafters, snipe if you need to kill, or appear behind people to choke them for non-lethal.

Just because you have weapons doesn't mean you MUST use them.

Keep in mind though; Revenge solves everything.

Play the game the way you want to. Dishonored accommodates both styles of play ... Aggressive, deadly or ... Non-lethal stealth. Or anything in between. That's what's great about this game. You can kill everyone or not kill a single person.

Actually not Dishonored 1 so much, but 2... yes. Yes it does make you feel like an absolute horrible person if you play high-chaos (lots of killing) in that one. But d1 has a lot of really ... kill-worthy enemies.

I think the high-chaos ending (for D1 at least) is the best, but I feel like I might be in the minority there. It's the ending most consistent with the tone and the characters. I'd go into more detail but spoilers.

But, it's not a feel-good resolution and it's not gonna pat you on the head and call you a hero if you go on a killing spree, if that's what you're wondering.

getting the low-chaos ending, and an important theme in the game overall, is about self-restraint, having power and holding back. Deciding not to kill wouldn't count for much if it was the harder option anyway.

Also bear in mind that you can kill a few people each mission and still get the nice ending. going totally non-lethal is for achievment purposes only, so you don't have to spare all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Google it

Hit up the Dishonored wikia page, there are a lot of pieces of info on things like that there.

Also to be clear here: low-chaos with a couple executions are what's canon to the game's story.
chickadeedeedee Jun 26, 2017 @ 2:56pm
the max depends on the number of people in the level. civilians count against you much more than hostiles. weepers do count, but rats and dogs don't matter.

also, whether you do lethal/nonelethal target eliminations and certain side objectives can tip the scales in either direction, so giving an exact number is impossible without spoiling those.

keep it in the single digits and you'll be fine.

Killing only assassination targets is still low chaos if you don't harm anyone else. Knock everyone else out = low.
chickadeedeedee Jun 26, 2017 @ 5:41pm
I'm just talking about whether it adds to your chaos. Killing a target is worse than killing a guard, because iirc the way you choose to eliminate your target has extra chaos modifiers attached to it. just trying to illustrate why it's not as simple as a body count.

I think it was 20% of the enemies in each level.

With no detections and no alarms, you can kill up to 30% of the total hostiles in each mission, and still keep a low chaos rating. You can also reduce chaos by being a good sumaritan.

Max total hostiles for each mission...

1. Dishonored: 16* (didn't stay in prison for extra kills)
2. High Overseer Campbell: 75*
3. House of Pleasure: 74* (includes weepers added if you spike the still for Granny)
4. The Royal Physician: 53*
5. Lady Boyle's Last Party: 39 (includes all tallboys, guards, weepers and Lord Shaw and his companions.)
6. Return To The Tower: 41 (42 if you include the Lord Regent Burrows.)
7. The Flooded District: 55* (includes Daud and all weepers but not Granny Rags or Slackjaw)
8. The Loyalists: 19
9. The Light At The End: 89*

*For these missions, the maximum number of hostiles will vary, depending on how many will spawn to replace ones that were killed.
