Ghost achievement help - Daud
I'm playing the xbox port, and i can't figure out how i get past Daud without alerting him. I tried sleepdarting him, but he just ran around the corner, detected me, and then we fought. is the not being detected not important here, or is there some sneaky way to be rid of Daud?

Daud is immune to sleep darts so that is not going to work, also he also has bend time so is immune to that as well. It's tough but possible to get past him without being detected (be prepared to save & reload a great deal the first time you try). If you blink to the top of the bookcase/cabinet beside the stairway you will be able to watch his pattern and have a good shot at the assassin guarding the exit as well (Be careful not to dart him when Daud can see as that will cause him to get alerted and he knows you are coming). from the cabinet you will be able to blink and scramble under the table behind him if you time it correctly and be able to pickpocket him and when he turns away grab the key hanging right across from the table and get out of dodge through either the exit or get back up high and through the window near his bed.

What about killing him though? Or does Daud not count as an assassination target?

You can dart the assassin by the door and Daud will be alerted, but just wait until he turns his back and blink down very quickly and choke him.

Right, choke him out and then kill him. Thanks for helping (though i feel this level is going to take forever)

Be careful to take out everyone though if you decide to go into a head-on battle. Daud says, "Get back! this is between me and Corvo." But those scumbags will sneak back in and whoop your ass while Daud's trying to kill you.

Being detected by Daud isn't a problem (for the Ghost Achievement) but, being detected by anyone else is. If you're gonna take Daud out, I'd suggest taking out all his men in and around the area first. Then, there are no witnesses to see you, or interfere.

To complete the mission, you don't have to kill him. As with other key targets, there's a non-lethal way to deal with Daud. In fact, all you really have to do is pick his pouch and leave the area, "sending a message" to him. No confrontation required. But, if you want to kill him, go ahead. You'll still get your Ghost achievement, because he is a key target.

If you struggle with sneaking up on Daud ... Watch a Youtube vid of someone playing a ghost run; that can give you many pointers as to what is possible. Truth be told it's more a matter of timing and learning the guard routines.

I ended up sitting under the desk behind Daud watching him and his guards until I was sure of the timing. Which works best witha sneak style

Ok then, I reckon i can make a reasonable attempt at the level again with all this. Thanks to everyone who commented here, as i'm not the greatest when it comes to dishonoured. =)

Don't worry, mate. It's always a pleasure to help out a new player because I had to figure out almost everything on my own and it was difficult.

Yeah, i'm the sort of player that once i find *A* way through the level, i'll probably just follow that route again and again in consecutive playthroughs, (which makes achievements like this really difficult for me)

On another note, i was able to beat Daud earlier today (although it felt very anticlimatic without a different killing animation)

I was like that too but I forced myself to find as many new ways around as I could because the Dishonored world is very cool to explore. so many different ways through many situations.
So old as hell but for anyone who finds this thru Google like I did, posses the assassin he's talking to, grab the key, walk out of sight lines, choke the assassin you just possessed. Thats it
