Cursor will not stay inside game window
Hi. I've tried the game a few times now and the mouse cursor keeps leaving the game window as I play. Is there any way to fix this? As soon as the cursor leaves the game window the paddle can no longer be moved so I can't really play right now.

Any advice is appreciated!

If you run in windowed mode, yes, this is the expected behavior. It's as a result of finding weird bugs otherwise during development on FATE, so we applied the same fixing (or not fixing) on FLUX. Can you run in fullscreen?

I was running the game in fulscreen as far as I'm aware. This was my options screen: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=267713710

I tried checking the windowed box and restarting it and it opened it up in the 1280x720 window.

Wait, your original message was about the cursor not staying on the screen in *fullscreen* mode?? Where was the cursor going then?? Are you running a multi-monitor setup, and the cursor was going to the other monitor?

This basically makes playing the game in windowed mode impossible, as you can't "slam" the cursor against the top or the bottom of the screen to hit quick beats. The paddle will just freeze in place if your mouse accelerates off the window.

Is that what's happening to me? I'm playing full screen, but I have a second monitor. Around halfway through stage 1-2, I start to experience the paddle freezing in place. It happens for different intervals; I frantically move my mouse around, and the paddle recovers.

My second monitor is off while I play, so it didn't even occur to me that my cursor location in Windows could be leaving the fullscreen game because I wouldn't see it happen. If this is what's happening, I guess it only begins around halfway through 1-2 because I start needing to make sharp movements.

I also have multi monitors. I tested it, and yeah, if you move your mouse onto the other screen, it will still freeze even in fullscreen.

Could you post a video of this happening? Also, do you happen to own any of the other BIT.TRIP games that use a mouse (i.e. FATE), and does the same thing happen there?

I actually played through every other BIT.TRIP game on Steam today. I have never experienced this problem in any of them.

That's correct. I run three monitors and the cursor leaves on both sides if I push enough in one direction.

Munchy - do you also own FATE? If so, does this problem happen there as well?

I can confirm that FATE also does not trap the mouse cursor, at least in windowed mode. I do not have multiple monitors right now to check if the same happens with fullscreen.

That said, FATE shows you where the mouse pointer is, so it becomes immediately clear when it's leaving the game (you also stop firing when that happens). When the mouse goes off window in FLUX, all that happens is the paddle suddenly stops moving.

Yup, windowed mode is a known thing for both FATE and FLUX, but the fullscreen version of this is news to us. Since both games use the same underlying mouse code, I'm trying to narrow down if it's the common code that's the problem or the code that is specific to each game (i.e. FLUX's game code).

I just fired up FATE and FLUX with both of my monitors on. Running in fullscreen, I deliberately moved my mouse cursor over to the second screen in each, and both games do allow it to leave the borders of the screen and stop functioning in the same manner. As bp pointed out, it's likely not a known problem in FATE because the position of the cursor is visible during the game and therefore unlikely to be inadvertently moved to a second monitor by the player. The behavior when it does occur is the same, though, so it seems like it's due to the shared code.

Sorry Jim I don't own FATE. Only FLUX.

It's still very much possible for this to happen inadvertently when you are on the left (right) side of the window and attempting to fire enemies behind (ahead of) you, although there's a hint of PEBKAC in that scenario. :)
