Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 1 Remake YAY or NAY?
There have been more and more rumors in recent months that supposedly in 2025/2026 we will see a proper remake (not a remaster) of the first part of Resident Evil. As for me, it's good news. I jumped into the series quite late because only from the remake of the second part, I finished the third and I'm slowly finishing the fourth on professional and I wouldn't mind another game in this style. Most people would probably prefer Resident Evil 9, but for me what has been released since part 7 is meh. Ethan Winters and his family didn't even have a tenth of the charisma that the characters from the first quadrology had, plus I don't like the first-person perspective. And yes Winters Expansion Pack add third person but cutscenes are left as they were in first. Why? That's what keeps me away from purchasing Village and honestly, I would prefer a remake of the fifth. Although there will be a lot of work there. First of all, the game should be completely rebuilt from a forced co-op mode to an actual single-player mode. Okay, in homage to the fans, they can leave the co-op, but let it be a separate mode from the single. Sheva Alomar is not the delicate daughter of the president but a person with military training, so the player should not be under constant pressure to babysit her all the time. Her AI must be improved and (this is my suggestion) she should not die so easily or, for example, let there be an item or accessory in the game that will give her invulnerability, something like Ashley's armor from the remake of the fourth.
Okay I thought only Sheva AI was dumb but we have the same situation with Chris piloted by AI. I feel bad for everyone who tried to beat RE5 without partner damage or just partner damage dealt. So yeah that's the first thing CAPCOM have to fix if they even hope of making RE5R.
This is my condition for even thinking about buying another remake. Only then can you start to possibly correct the inconsistencies in the plot and lore to fit it into the world established by the remakes. As for the sixth part I don't know if anything can be scraped out from it.
It's just that bad. At least that's is my impression after watching a whole playthrough on yt. The story is a mess and the survival horror pace is gone.
As you can see, I am not positively inclined towards any part after the fourth, so returning to Spencer's estate in the gameplay that I already know from the remakes would really be a bull's eye. Especially for me who never ever played the first game before.

I checked it before and the RE1 on steam is actually HD remaster not remake.
There was never one so CAPCOM could make it as their next RE game.

I'd be interested just to see what they do with it, especially story wise. It's not currently possible to play the canon series of events in any existing version of Resident Evil. The gamecube remake also redid all the voiceacting, but kept the script almost identical, which winds up really dry without the melodramatic Soap Opera acting saucing it up.

I think it'd be neat for it to be in first-person, which is sensible for an environment like the mansion, and even more if they really lean in to the Puzzle Mansion concept, but resident evil fans are notoriously whiny and might get mad if they can't look at Jill's and Chris's butt entire character model.

Initimate, enclosed environments like a Mansion are also one of those settings where I actually care about graphics since they can be so intricate and have lots of little details.

HD remaster of a remake that originally came out on Gamecube back in 2002.

Just make it a toggle, same as Village and The Evil Within 2. Then everyone can be happy.

Too bad the third person in village was a garbage afterthought that doesn't actually play like a third person game.

Shouldn't have even bothered adding it.

Especially that it was not free post launch update but instead paid content. What's next paid save slots? Oh wait...

Actually i meant Metal Gear Survive. Dragon Dogma always had just one save slot which is infuriating but it is what it is.

I don't think RE1 NEEDS a remake honestly. It still plays great today with the alternate control scheme and the fixed camera angles are really well done, unlike 0 where you can't see what you're attacking half the time.

The OG remake of RE1 still stands up as a solid game. I would be interested in how they would go about remaking RE1 over 20 years later.

I disagree. Resident Evil 1 for someone who just finished any of the 3 remakes will feel strange with its archaic gameplay style. Also, I think the original story doesn't fit with the current RE remake storyline, not to mention what we discovered in 8. They could also remake 0 as a separate mode after completing the RE1R campaign like the Phantom Survivors in RE2 or in DLC.
Besides. No one is taking away from you og game/hd remaster. We are taking about standalone remake not replacer like Acti did with Warcraft 3.
