Penetration Power in the remake is extremely useful as the game is much more close quarters as well.

ill be honest, i prefer getting as much damage as i can per bullet, red 9 is where its at.
i dont really feel like i fights crowds as often, and if i do, the rifle and the shotgun exist

All cool. But remember Red 9 are overrate and the starting handgun Silver Ghost are the best option! With maximum upgrade it'll grand you a power of a god itself to x5 time crit chance :DDD

You can rebuy the guns you sell anytime you want. What are you talking about?

You don't really sell your weapon and it vanish from world. This game use a "mortgage" system if you sell your weapons. Any sold weapon appear on repurchase page with the stat of the time you sell it.

every weapon is worth getting, unlike the original RE4 where the attache was your only inventory so if you wanted a new weapon your only real choice was to sell the other weapons of the same type from your case to make room, the remake has a storage room for your guns so you can store the ones you dont want to use now and save em for that playthrough you do wanna use em without having to find a merchant to rebuy them

Then whats the point of getting the Punisher over the original pistol? And, if I upgrade the damage for the Punisher, does it do more damage than the upgraded original pistol?

did you read the other comments? the point of the punisher isnt how much damage it does per shot, its about how many enemies it can hit per shot. each gun has its own specialty and the punishers is penetration

No. The point of Punisher is penetration. Aka, you can shoot a dude behind another dude, meaning they both take damage from one bullet.
