There's a charm that reduces the cost on body armor repairs as well.
So yeah, if you don't take too much damage all the time and your aim is at least passable, then you're free to ignore it.
It's probably way more useful for staying alive in Hard Core or Professional though.
Once you get your guns upgraded though and nothing really out there to spend money on, yeah, why not. No real reason left to not repair it whenever you get the chance.
I just pumped in like 300,000 Pesetas of upgrades too.
I have cleared the game normally, then hardcore, then assisted for minimalist (pistols and knives only, no cat ears), then again on Professional. I would never pass on it given a choice.
The less you get hit, the higher its value. If you never get hit, like all game, you don't need it obviously, but that is an outlier. If you try to face tank every hit, then it isn't doing you any good either, since it will be gone almost instantly. But if you are just occasionally taking a stray hit, it is perfect for you, and a must have.
Only real draw back on the armor is how much peseta you will have to spend to repair it constantly if you get hit a lot because its 9.5k repair without Ada's charm. Other than that you should definitely grab it especially on higher difficulty.
Body armor nullify projectile and explosive type damage, so it can be an insurance against these pesky attacks (they can wombo combo you to death)
I have been using poor man method on increasing surviving chance, which is the leather briefcase method. Less forgiving than body armor, require a bit of skill since it can't be reactivate at merchant like body armor, it rely on rng dropping red herb which depend on you defeating enemies and progressing game without taking damage too often. I don't buy exclusive ticket anymore so might as well put spinels into some other options.
