I think 4 have the worst story in all series.
I'm lefting 6 out for good.

what does the last part even mean? Did we play the same game? Within five minutes the ganados attempt to murder Leon, Murder two cops, you find dead bodies, one hanged on a wall with a fork through her head... He left Capcom to make a bunch of one-note game and got bought off by Bethesda, now he just leaves Bethesda too.

He, Kamiya and Inafune really shows that games aren't just a one-person thing, but a team thing.

And mystery with the ganados? Are you serious? The crazed spaniard who wants to axe you a question right at the beginning.

there was a mistery why he and whole village acted like that, was they just crazy, protective of their secrets or maybe infected. It was very lovecrafian.

In remake very 1st guy attacks you after death and shows tentacles of las plagas - intrigue is ruined, you know imediatelly they are infected with some parasite. While in original it only revealed from 2nd chapter when their heads started to pop with more mature las plagas and a hint was given when Sadler gave Leon a shot of something after capture, but it was not yet revealed what exactly he injected into leon.
