Question: What is DX9 Mode
I realize DX9 refers to DirectX 9. But I was wondering, does it serve any purpose? Are there differences between Steam Edition and DX9 on the prompt when launching the game? Or is DX9 just there for compatabilty reasons and there is really just no differences between the two?

As far as I know, DX10/11 utilises advanced functions, allowing you to get the most out of your graphics card and potentially improve performance. DX9 is compatible with older hardware and has better stability.

Stability should be the same. Default is DirectX 11 which has some additional graphic rendering features. On some hardware/systems DX9 mode is the better choice.
DX9 has worse graphics but they are still amazing, this game was pushing it for everything at the time and still looks great.

I couldn't tell the differences on my very old, updated Windows XP Pro SP3 machine. Obviously, XP SP3 can only go up to DirectX 9.0c.
