Custom Planet Names?
So I'm wondering if there's anyway to mod the game to add more planet names on top of the defaults (it gets a bit stale having the same names recycled every game). Maybe possibly the same for ships as well?

Anything is appreciated, thanks!

You do know you can rename them, right?

There's a button right in between the change game speed buttons, I believe that does it.
Have fun naming everything.

I always name the planet that looks like Earth, Terra Nova or Mundus Novus =)

Untested:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Sins....\String\English.str

Open in a text editor. Planet names start around line 843 for me and ends around line 1730. Just stick your new names at the end of line 1730 with the rest of them using the format they use. I have 297 planet names by default (0-296), so a new entry would increment by one like so:

StringInfo
ID "IDS_PLANETNAME_297"
Value "EXIMIUS'S WONDERLAND OF WONDER"

It should be noted I have not tested this, nor have I experimented with what symbols are accepted. I assume any ASCII character. It MIGHT also work with unicode characters. The easiest way to test that is probably to rename the planets in game and see if it accepts them. If it accepts them, it should work in the text file too. If it DOESN'T accept them in game, that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work in the text file... you just haven't confirmed that it will.

Now you can have things like - "☺ DEATH ☺". In case you can't see, those are smiley faces. Of course, Windows has ♥♥♥♥ (can I say that here?) support for unicode, which makes it difficult to use the fun ones. There are skull and cross bones and snowmen and all sorts of badass characters.

So, hopefully unicode works. Someone test it and let me know!

Yeah, this is more what I had in mind, so that I don't have to manually rename planets all the time. I'll test this out later.

Mundus Novus... sounds like something cheasy from Doctor Who

And USS Daedalus sounds like cheesy Stargate!!!

Just kidding, I love that show and the Daedalus rocks.

And I'm not sure why I said this because I don't really like Dr. Who...
