The X1 system is fully integrated into all of the random maps with the exception of the ring map(X class next to home world could be catastrophic). They are not on the vanilla fixed maps.
They are otherwise normal planets, labeled as X Class instead of their respective terrain based classification, with an ability in the fourth button slot that runs off the top of the screen.
Plan to try SOA. The screens and gameplay video looks damn awesome.
Why don't both the modders of Armada and SOA join forces or something lol. We can get more races and features!!!!
And about the Borg, they are meant to be OP imo. I havent tried Borg in SOA but in Armada, an assimilation cube can wipe out 2-3 faction's fleet quite easily in late game with titans and single handedly at that. So much so that me and my friends and our AI buddies are kinda feeding the Borg Exp LOL. Its challenging but fun. Borg is not meant to be played by human players in multiplayer. To me they are like a 3rd party "control". Thats the beauty of it!!!!
It is impossible to match both mods together. To put models, particles, abilities, buffs together would take alot of time. There is also alot of different minds how should a star trek mod look like. SOA2 team think there should be no titans and Armada III team wants to have titans. The modders of SOA2 and even Armada III think borg should be OP.
If you are looking for a mod with more balance and more races you can try mine. In my mod I have playable races (Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Borg, Dominion) and all other races as NPC. But you will be also like a Beta Tester cause it is not ready yet :-)
Because the two teams of mod devs don't agree with each other in design philosophy. Oil, meet water.
SOA2 is trying to be a Star Trek mod. STA3 is trying to be a Star Trek mod. Both are right.
SOA2 wants you to build frigate factories at every planet so you can get repairs. STA3 realizes repairs are a needed part of the game and gives you real repair platforms. STA3 is right.
SOA2 wants to pretend Sisko & Janeway don't exist, and therefore don't give them any voices on ships (SOA2 devs= TNG fanboys). STA3 doesn't try to ignore Star Trek series they don't like, and includes Sisko & Janeway voiceovers. STA3 is right.
SOA2 has faster moving ships, providing more exciting gameplay. STA3 has slower moving ships. SOA2 is right.
SOA2 provides only one kind of starbase with a large potential for upgrades. STA3 confuses the issue by providing two kinds of starbase; one weaker with more potential for upgrades, the other stronger with less potential for upgrades. SOA2 is right.
SOA2 thinks you can defend a star with 2 starbases. STA3 thinks you can defend a star with 1 starbase. Both are wrong; you need 4.
It's unfortunate that neither of SOA2 nor STA3 have made a 'Borg VOY' (theoretical & balanced) faction in addition to the 'Borg TNG' (current & overpowered) faction. Both are wrong; players should have the power to decide if they will allow OP factions in their games.
And on and on and on. Altor named a few more differences in his post too. And you can find a lot of people who don't agree with the opinions in this post. There will probably be as many Star Trek mods as there are opinion groups populated with mod-devs.
In STA3, Sisko and Janeway are on individual "hero ships" as opposed to the Defiant and Intrepid class. SOA2 does not use "hero ships" and so has no individuals. Numerous ships all using the same highly recognizable voice is bad. Build lots of Sovereigns, and you'll get really tired of hearing Picard everywhere. They take 95 fleetpoints and max tech. If we had Janeway on the Intrepid, a 16 fleetpoint tier 3 unlock, well...
It should be of course only 1 Picard ship with only 1 Picard. The same for others. I don't believe that in STA3 there are several hero or titan ships in one time.
That is why it is better to make your own mod and play it how you would like to play Star Trek :-)
Proof in the pudding right there, both mods are great and the fact we have the choice of star trek mods is a good thing imo. Pick what you like, or pick up some tools and start modding yourself.
Anyway if there are some good ideas for star trek mod or people who want to test my mod can contact me. Would like to find more star trek and sins fans to share.
On a nicer note, I'd suggest playing both mods. I do, and both satisfy different desires for me dependant on what type of game I want.
I was playing SOA2 for a long time.
Sorry but both mods don't satisfy me in any way. That is why I made my own mod and I like it most. If there are people who don't like these 2 mods like me and would like to give a try for another one I would like to share it. Or do you want to tell me they have to like these two mods?
