Agreed; and the sales of Sins have to be enough to warrant a sequel at some point if it isn't already in development unannounced.

Until announced otherwise, we can still expect SoaSE2 some time in the future.
That's an interesting article. I'm pretty much entirely uninterested in MOBAs but if it is a Sins title then I *might* give it a chance after I see some gameplay videos.
Fact is, I'm just interested in playing with others. Single player is where it is at for me.
I'm personally very glad this game does not have hardpoints. And if you ever play online you'll quickly realize that when fighting against intelligent opponents, the game does have tactics and you need to use them to win.
And that article is several years old, and I have no doubt actually working on Sins of a Dark Age might have changed Mr. Fraser's opinions on Mobas. :p
I am giddy that you will be giddy with joy when there is Sins 2 news. :)
RTS dieing and being replaced with MOBAS? Ide rather kill myself than see one of the best genres in gaming history being replaced by my second to last liked genere.
“Sins of a Solar Empire is still thriving, and it’s basically our take on RTS, but it’s kind of diverged from classic RTS, so it still has a place. It still has a very specific community that wants more.”
You may argue this was a statement from 20 months ago and a lot could have changed Ironclad's plans for the future, still looking forward to a sequel is bit more than wishful thinking, and your average 'fanboyism'.
Furthermore, who with the right mind won't project a reasonable forecast for potential profit? If every game publisher is aiming for a day one sale of $800 million simply because Rockstar has set the 'par', then no one will be making any games at all.
Personally there is no doubt in my mind that SoaSE will produce far more money than Sins of a Dark Age will. That's enough to convince anyone that they were wrong. And even if it doesn't, Ironclad owns the rights to the Sins of a Solar Empire IP and if he really cares only about profits as you say (if you read his dev journals throughout the years and actually message him as I have, you'd know that's not a fair assessment), they might well let another studio make Sins 2 for a share of the profits, I.e. Stardock, which has done much of the work for Rebellion and certainly is not leaving the Strategy genre anytime soon.
Also, we know Ironclad was one of the bidders (or was about to be) for the Homeworld license when THQ went under. Why would a studio who thought RTS games was dead be willing to pay a lot of money for an IP that has only be used for strategy games thus far?
I dunno. When you read the title, it makes it sound like they intend to divest themselves from RTS. Unfortunately for Ironclad, the world probably doesn't need yet another MOBA. I won't be surprised if their F2P MOBA fails miserably.
What they had with Sins was unique and to this day not replicated -- a slower-paced 4x-RTS. They had gold with a Sins 2's potential for online multiplayer PvP (see the success of the original Starcraft) but they needed to figure out how to dramatically improve the online multiplayer aspects of the game (skill-based matchmaking, improve game stability, allow disconnected players to return to the game, custom map auto-download, etc.). If they had been able to do that, they could have potentially created the next Starcraft with Sins 2.
Releasing a Fantasy MOBA in an oversaturated market is a risky gamble to say the least!
