am surprised there isnt a dune mod,
am really surprised after playing sins for years that no one has or even attempted to make a dune mod for sins
for people that dont no, dune was one of the first real big rts games, and it kicked off the whole rts genre,
made by westwood studio's who also created the command and conquer games,

well untill EA bought them, and then destroyed the company (pretty much like bioware in a few years lol)

did anyone on here play the game ?
or think a dune mod would suite sins,

well rant over.

wasn't that created for Galactic Civilizations II ?
True, but has been attempted at least somewhat.
i haven't found anything concreate of it been attempted, ive seen talks of it which dated back to 08 but nothing found of a mod starting or dyeing for that matter based on the dune universe.
Problem is, is that Dune backdrop is planetary, hences its known ships are few (aside from the prequesl). That doesn't gel well with Sins, space backdrop.
thats true, but you could take diffrent aspects of there units and create ships with references from those, like the devasator is big armoured slow and all about fire-power.

but apart from the ships a lot of work is already there, for example you could take there structures from emperor batlle for dune and redesign them to better suite there homeworld's technology,
same with the planets,
and if you think about it the 3 houses in that game has very similer references in this game,
the advent, ice homeworld, culture, corruption, work as a single mind, sound familier? ordos
the phase, is basicaly an underpowered harkonnen.
and the atridies are basically us earthlings aka the tech,

yeah they didnt have some of there weapons but you can see that there are similarities between them,
i belive a dune mod for sins would be a great aspect and a great mod to an already great game,
First of all, despite the importance of Dune for the RTS genre, I think it is more well known as a Sci-fi book series than as a video game. For some reason no one has bother made a modern Dune game either.

Second, as Ryat said we do not know enough about Dune's space technology to make a mod work. You'd have to make up so many ships that you may as well just make it your own independent mod. Technically the Spacing Guilde is the only one that really has interstellar ships anyways, at least in the time around the first book.
ive never read any of the books but ave played all the dune games,
i thought the ships could be reflected off the units, since in emperor the last dune game made
every house had diffrent units while in others they were the same,
but dont get me wrong i loved dune and still think it would be a great mod,
but i dont have any intention of making the mod myself.
(mainly due to the fact i wouldn't know where to start,)
but i herd you're pretty good at modding goafan lol hint hint

Well I have read the books, and I am good at modding, and I think the fact that I haven't even considered doing a Dune mod is a sign that the Dune universe would make a poor transition to Sins of a Solar Empire. :p

Even if the Advent at least borrow a lot from it story wise, gameplay wise it just wouldn't work out. You need a game with land combat to do it, even if you have a space strategic map like in say Empire at War. Interplanetary tactical space combat just doesn't happen in Dune.
The prequels had a lot of space battles though not much info about the ships overall but as far as Emperor of Dune timeline the Spacing Guild had taken over much of the space travel capabilities (prequels explain why) and absolutely forbid fighting in space. Its why land combat is so important in the Dune Lore.
Also energy weapons and shields don't mix in dune universe. They cause Atomic explosions at both ends. A fighter could wipe out a titan ( and it's self ) in 1 hit.
the ordos used laser weapons as one of there units was called a laser tank
so i think energy mixed quite well in the dune universe, and didnt the harkonnon have an
atmoic missile as there house special weapon ??
The spice must flow!

Hey, SOMEONE had to say it.
Well worry about weapon types for mods if a bit superfluos as they can be removed/changed with ease. As to the OP, please invest some time in understanding the Dune lore before continuing this concept. Maybe then you would understand why those of us who are fans of both the Dune series and this game think this mod concept would work poorly at best.
