I believe you can find your answer in the statistics.
A quick reference(rebellion):
- Sins is a RTS with 3 main faction. In Rebellion, each faction is split into 2 subfactions(loyals and rebels), providing a total of 6 factions.
- There are several 4X elements in Sins(lots of research, economy min/max and a decent amount of diplomacy). Due to being in real time and the combat oriented gameplay, you should not compare it to true 4X games however.
- Good looking graphics considering the amount of ships on the screen.
- xp system for capital ships and Titan(which gains tougher and more powerfull with higher levels and also gain new abilities).
There are a lot more than that, but really, the fastest way to see the differences, is to watch an hour of "lets play".
Sins of a Solar Empire is a slightly asymmetrical RTS set in space. It contains some elements inspired from 4X games, but is still more similar to a "traditional" RTS. It also works 100% in a multiplayer setting, even if games play out completely differently than against AIs.
Stardrive is a purely single-player space 4X with a slow, real-time pace instead of being turn-based. I wouldn't call it a failure, but its issues lie with putting form over function. Comparing it to Sins is like comparing Civilization 3 to Age of Empires 2.
The Last Federation is a "lite" grand-strategy that is set in space. In some ways, it is the polar opposite of Sins: its combat system is incredibly rudimentary (I'm talking about AI vs AI combat here) and is instead used to supplement the more robust diplomatic system, which is the center of attention in that game.
AI War: Fleet Command is more of a cooperative shoot-em-up than a standard RTS. There is absolutely nothing common between it and Sins (other than they are both set in space).
Lords of the Black Sun is in Early Access. It also seems like an poorer attempt at a space 4X heavily inspired by existing space 4X's. Comparing it to Sins would be like comparing a Civilization knock-off to Age of Empires 2.
Its not a bad question. There use to be a demo of sins wont have starbases or titans. You may be able to find it. But sins is a great game if you like that type of game.
