Sins AI, Artificial Unintelligence
Hi, is this mod still the best option for improving the AI?

Thanks!

If you want a more strategic opponent, why not log onto Ironclad Online and see if you can find some humans to play against. The game even has team 5 on 5's with <gasp> no AI's.

Artificial Unitelligence mod.

If all you want is AI changes, I think its your only option. Many mods try to adjust the AI, but that's not their main focus.

Too be honest, the only think I really dispise about the AI on this game is that is has a nack of giving up mid game. I LIKE using my dang defense bases ok :P

I thought Unintelligence was a clever jab at the Sins AI. What an odd name for a mod that improves the AI. :P

Most of the AI code is not available to modders, so we are very limited in what we can do with it. And some of what we do are little hacks and tricks to try and kick it in the right direction. :p In that sense Unintelligence is not a bad name, since sadly we cannot modify the core behavior routines to really make it seem smarter.

Well, Goa. The AI in Interregnum is still kicking my ass even now. So rest easy. :) <-- MiWadiAddiction btw

Regarding AI and intelligence, what difficulty level do people play at? I had a go at Unfair against a sole AI which went pretty well until it seemed to bug out with the AI not producing any new ships. Any people regularly beating Unfair or above? Or do you find the AI to not be worth playing against?

As GoaFan said, from what I can tell, if AI changes are the only thing you're looking for, my mod's (unfortunately) still the only option. Most modders tend to have greater ambitions, and my mod only exists because I wanted a place to keep track of my AI findings (Sins' AI works in mysterious ways, and a while ago I went on a personal quest to try to uncover as much about it as I could). That said, you'll likely find elements of the mod in other mods, especially overhaul mods that play differently from the main game, since at that point, you need all the help you can get to trick the AI into not playing like an idiot.

Miscellaneous stuff: I called the efforts Artificial Unintelligence as a joke, but since I've been working on more substantial AI efforts that are also called Artificial Unintelligence, it serves a second purpose of keeping me humble. Regarding difficulty levels, I'd rarely recommend going above Hard difficulty, mainly because the game turns into a slog at that point; instead, I'd recommend you read the second part of the Artificial Unintelligence post, which explains some of the AI's natural (in)competencies and can help you create game setups that are naturally more difficult without having to rely on bonus resources for AI players. I'd also recommend you link to the newer thread[forums.sinsofasolarempire.com]; it's empty, but the post is updated with a version of the mod that works for the v1.83 opt-in patch.
