As it happens though, I can help you out there. Lucky I was passing through.
In Ascendancy, and some other mods, upkeep has been changed to cost per ship, not fixed cost per supply level, which is usually why players go broke and can't work out why. Keep a rough idea in mind how much budgetary headroom you have before increasing supply and building swarms of new ships. If poop hits the fan, scuttle or mothball parts of your fleet.
