One of the things E4X does is make all factions a LOT more diverse. For example, TEC Rebels are perfect for highly aggressive gameplay due to all manner of combat related bonuses (they get economy related benefits from it too and pretty much rely on constant bloodshed to keep it running) and they start being able to build Javelis LRM Frigate's and Krosov Siege Frigate's from the start
TEC Loyalists are absolutely amazing at turtling, they even start with a Raloz Heavy Constructor so they can start building their first (free) starbase right away
Vasari in general are all about capital ships; they get upgrades that allow every capital ship to act both as an imperial AND weapons lab and allows every one of them to generate income over time as well. Sure, all those require several labs to research, but they're amazing once you get them and it pretty much allows you to deconstruct any labs afterwards and use your logistics slots for other stuff
