Sins vs nominal RTS games
Hey, I've played a fair bit of Starcraft 2 and Age of empires 2, and I'm wondering how translatable the skills are in those games to medium-high level games in Sins, if any.

Essentially the same kind of thinking, unit management, situational awareness that you already possess, but I'd say it's a little slower, due to it being in space and that greater distances have to be covered.

If you are skilled in aoe2 or sc2 then you will be skilled in sins pretty fast. Sins isnt competitive multiplayer game so the “skilled” lvl in sins is alot lower compared to other 2 mentioned games.

But it depends where do you live and what time can you play games. One big reason why sins do not have many really good players is because we dont have enough people to play non-stop.
Sins is more like a casual RTS.

If you can hold your own in Starcraft or AOE2, then your micro skills should be more than enough for Sins. Sins is less about button mashing Average Clicks per Minute speed and more about strategy and tactics. There is a small community of guys ("pro players") who play 5v5 games (aka "5s") regularly, especially on the weekends. Once you can smash the AI and understand the basic mechanics of the game, you'll probably be ready to get started with the 5v5's. Just explain that you're a competent Starcraft or AOE2 player and you want to become proficient at Sins and you'll probably be accepted into a game. I recommend reading Grimm's Guide, Zabik's new TEC guide, and an outdated unit guide by a guy called Raging Amish which you can find on the original Sins forum.

The most important RTS skill learning method applies to sins aswell, watching replays/recorded games.

Unfortunately sins do not have a archive for that. So you have to watch your own played games from pro players perspective.

From experience of games, when sins was shortly for free, sc2 guys, being totally new to sins, wrecked havoc.

They knew very well how to spam units, so the only weakness of theirs, was the lacking of knowledge of capital ship'S abilities, though even in their "first mp game" those sc 2 guys, would be capable of fighting and maybe winning against sins regulars with 400 games.

Sins normally don't need to much management, but if someone from SC2 comes here, easily can break some lower lvl plays, since the game is so slow paced compared to those games, I honestly can't even call those as strategy games, they're closer to fps games because of their insane reflex-like rection requirements, static defense doesn't even matter almost, unless you mass it up in lategame, while in sins, your fleet can easily get saved by a few repair bays at a defensive position next to a starbase; you just can't do anything similar in SC2. If you lost a big fight, you probably lost the game, while here, you might have lost a big fight, but you have mutipple ways to recover, save the remains of your fleet, etc, not to mention capitalships, as long as they're alive, you're good. Fleet is replaceable, techs can be maxxed sooner or later, caps are realy hard and even getting harder and harder to replace lvl 10 ones, because they are easier to kill in lategame, etc.
Also, there are many ways too to slow enemy advancement towards your 'production lines' too with phase jump inhibs, there are so many tactical possibilities, especially in lategame.
In SC2 and as far as I know in AoE2, after you've cleaned up you just push through, you can realy easily deal high economic damage to enemies by killing workers, etc. in SinS, it's not possible, you realy have to make a long term tactic to reduce enemy economy.
There are some balance issues however for lategame (fighters mainly and titans).

Somewhat. The biggest difference between Sins and SC2/AoE2 is capital ship management. Capitals are not cost efficient but can become extremely powerful when properly leveled. This doubly applies to Titan ships, even more costly, even harder level scaling. You'll probably be able to grasp the micro, counter build and ship spam fairly competently, but late game capital ship and titan combos is probably something that you have to learn.

Edit: Sins is very much like Warcraft 3. If you have played Warcraft 3 you'll probably pick up Sins fairly quickly

A way to make the game faster would be a very good improvement for the game.
When i play singleplayer i usually play at double speed.
Combat still feels realistic but you have to wait less for everything.
It would be nice if multiplayer had such an option.

The game's biggest advantage over other strategy games, is that it's not a button smash feast...
If you want a faster game, go play Starcraft 2.... seriously!

Well, I dunno what is your apm, but with 1-2 clicks per second, I am struggling to keep up with the pace of the game :D
In general, there is nearly no time, where you could have nothing to do, if you are a perfectionist. Especially if you have allies, you need to analyze their front as well, in order to send them resources or ships, or simply to understand that if you do not win your fight, the global front will colapse.
