I can vouch for this. Interregnum is a very good mod, and GoaFan is still working on it.
I mean, even the devs of the game have highlighted GoaFan's work. (He made the E4X mod, which Interregnum is essentialy an extention of.)
have you played it?
well yeah the AI obviously has some big advantages but i just find the tech trees to be rubbish and the the new gameplay to be nonsense.
However, player vs player its just fine.
Sadly the AI is 100% hardcoded, so all the tweaks we have made to the AI impact all AI types
The choice we had was between a braindead AI and a challenging AI, and we have opted for the latter."
the AI is still brain dead, they just have an income advantage early game. and tbh early game wins game most of the time.
the difficulty doesn't change anything, AI always has an insane start bonus
So the Empire has a larger fleet and you're having to use some magical powers to overcome that challenge to help the Rebellion win?
Have you never seen Star Wars?
