Violin piece (isn't in OST)?.
I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. There is a song that I've heard in the game a few times that I can't seem to find.

I don't think it was written for the game. I remember hearing it before, which leads me to believe it's an old piece.

It's a slow progression of strings transitioning between notes, and has a mysterious and otherworldy vibe.

It'd be great if anyone knew the name :)

I should have mentioned, it isn't in the OST. This further leads me to believe that it wasn't written for the game.

I think it's a classical piece.

I think I heard it in a BBC documentary before, but I just can't remember the name.

Is it from a mod or something?

Nope. Haven't touched any files. Game is completely vanilla. And I've heard it multiple times across multiple comuputers.

I had given up on trying to find the name, but decided to try my luck with the forums.

I suggest trying Youtube as well. People have uploaded pretty much all the soundtracks there.

I have, believe me.

It seems to be an utterly illusive song. I still find it odd that I can't find any mention of it on the soundtrack.

Well hopefully a dev drops by and sprinkles a little insight on it for you.

Unless the latest couple of updates have updated the soundtrack list that I ain't aware of, it's incredible you can find something new and this elusive after all these years. Did the new DLC have something do with it I wonder?
WalrusMan Jan 8, 2017 @ 7:30pm
Not after all these years. I believe it was always there. I forgot about it, but after playing today I wanted to find it.

It's definetly not an original song though, which is probably why it isn't listed in the OST.

All I can suggest is to get some recording software, play the game, and next time that song starts, hit record.

There should be plenty of free recording softwares available, especially if you only need to get a short snippet.

If you manage to get a clip, you can post it, and SOMEONE is bound to recognise it.

Good luck to ya mate.:rebellion:

Don't remember if they had violins or not, but the music used for the intro videos of the original Sins and perhaps Rebellion may not be in the game files/soundtrack.

Of course, since you heard it in game, it should be in your game files, in the sound folder, somewhere.

Alright. I'm going to go digging in the game files to find this stupid piece.

I can't rest until it has been found. Thanks for the help guys.

I hope you see this after 2 years: I really think and hope the song you were looking for is ‘Quiet 7’ from the soundtrack. It got dredged out of my memory tonight while playing a board game and I scoured youtube until I found it (encountering this post along the way). You can find it here:

(‘Or search sins of a solar empire quiet 7’). That’s the only source I could find. The melody matches your description and I think it’s the best piece in the game.

im pretty sure the song OP is looking for is Requiem for a Dream. I heard it from like the very first (pirated) edition of the game before i decided to buy it. This was back in like 2012 or 13.
