"Failed to initialize Steam API. Exiting."

I just installed the game and launched it through the steam app and it tells me that it: "Failed to initialize Steam API. Exiting." and refuses to do anything else. Any help?

I would try to restart Steam. Sometimes it has bugs with how it hooks up to games.

I've already tried multiple times. Heck, I've tried verifying the integrity of the game files and rebooting my laptop. Nothing seems to work.

I also just ran into this problem, and solved it by closing Steam and then launching the game (from the icon, not from within Steam.) Launching the game while Steam was off allowed the game to launch Steam, which seems to have cured my API error.
