I watched it and didn't even hear mention of nauts
On steam page it still says:
DEVELOPER: Ronimo Games
PUBLISHER: Ronimo Games
Buy Awesomenauts All Nauts Pack 24,99€
The whole ronimo have shown themselves to be mere scumbags without morals and basic decency. It had statements like they are awesomenauts their love to then dispose of them so vilely. Other games have ended, but they did it with a clean slate, seriously. Half a year no interest. All the news was only given by fans. This behaviour should go down in history as a deterrent example of how not to do it.
Why did you forget to write that they shut down the server suddenly, unexpectedly, without notice?
uhm you mean their bancruptcy :D
It would be a lot better if they did bring the game back as a sequel (e.g. Awesomenauts 2), actual marketing and better player retention. It would also help a lot if balancing was handled a lot better (Froggy G still 1v3 solo carrying in every league? Oh yeah, people totally want to stay for that)
For now, it would be best to assume that if the game does come back, it won't be coming back anytime soon which is a shame too because there's an untapped market for 2D side scroller MOBAs nauts was the best imo despite its numerous problems.
Awesomenauty run on Linux. If they had any sense, they've been on google store, on epic store, on Android-Google TV for a long time.
They could have sold the game to some big company that would offer it as a bonus, they could have made advertising characters. I can see the concept of it being an advertising game for big companies. Except they couldn't have abandoned the game many years ago. There have been many changes in the world since then that they haven't reacted to at all.
Compared to other F2P games, they had a high player base. A couple hundred active players might be low, but other games have 1-2.
They had their own style, their own concept. They should have developed it and not let it slowly die.
Just one more thing, could the Epic game store offer some special character for Epic. They could have given that for one week as a promo. They could offer some of their iconic characters as skins for Fortnite. In terms of awesomenaut, they did big nothing. After all, much smaller games that are on Steam are also on the google store. If it were my game, I might offer it to a smart TV manufacturer. It was their most successful product. Which they let die. In doing so, so far they have no competition, a clone. They are still unique.
It's the perfect game for console gaming. Gamepads, 2D, cartoon graphics, simple rules, suitable for all ages.
really wouldn't be that costly, at this point all Atari would need to do is to spend some money on setting up new server for game and it would be good to go, literally everything esle is in place and working(including monetisation
There was no reason for servers in the first place, it's just MM. The original game ran without any servers and was just P2P, the servers added didn't do anything but integrate a matchmaking algorithm and host the leaderboards...there was no point to them. When they were done from the game they should've removed all that garbage out and set the game back to P2P, everyone could still play the game just fine if they had done that with the latest patch as well. And it would play exactly the same, they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over the community that still played it probably out of malice IMO. Many of us bought this game originally as well as DLC for it like Startstorm or Overdrive (I remember spending 50 dollars on the kickstarter for Starstorm to help Ronimo out), many of us also bought a ton of skins for this game, also to help Ronimo out.
In the end what they did was a ♥♥♥♥ move and they left the game in an unplayable state. Yes there's a work around but let's be real no one's gonna do that, the majority of people aren't doing it and it reverts the game to a much older version anyway.
Rest in Piss Ronimo. At least Nauts was fun and yeah I got my money's worth out of the game, but holy ♥♥♥♥ this is an example of good game ideas and horrible implementation. I won't even get into the hole way through every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ update Ronimo was making to the game slowly ensured that people would hate their experience with it.
