It's a shame the game can stop your progress like this for potentially days.. It's a great game and I want to continue it as soon as I can.
The game also has a Moon Grotto, which would allow you to ignore the real world moon phase, but I'm not sure how to access it yet.
The game is also aware of players that decied to cheat by adjusting their system clock. The game allows it, but denies you the Honest Player award (or something) and gives you Cheater Cheater (or something) instead.
Once in the moon grotto, you cause the Scythian to sit on a stool, then a representation of the moon over your head is forced to cycle. It keeps cycling till you cause the Scythian to stand up.
So you should be able to cause it to shift to any phase regardless of what the current phase is and do it as often as you like. (I guess)
For me, the moon stayed shifted until I collected the dark moon trigon.
I also had to fight some monster that came out of the golgolithic mass on just about every other screen. I'm not sure if that's because I tampered with the moon phase or if the game just does that after you start trying to get the other two trigons.
The battles are easy though as long as you know about using Shield to dodge in Mike Tyson's Punch Out fashion.
