For those with tiny font here's a mod that may help!
All that dpi switching stuff and lowering of reso with windowed mode junk didn't work for me.

Try this mod out and tell me if it helps.

[MOD] CKII UI Font Mod

Very simple mod, increases the size of all the game's fonts, including tooltips. I'm using this on a 24" monitor 1920x1080 native resolution and finally I can play the game without bleeding my eyes out!
There are some other things I would like to change, like the small traits icons, maybe in a future version If I can get the game to not CTD everytime I change something!

Installation instructions:
Download the file and extract all contents into the mod folder: C:\Users\username\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\mod or wherever you have your documents folder.

Credit:
Credit goes to Imperator07 for the idea and his EUIV: bigger tooltip font mod wich inspired me to create this mod.

[to recap the other thread]:

Linux Users, the above mod will work fo us too, but here's what you have to do t make it work:

First download the UI font mod linked above.

Extract the files into "~/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II", then rename the new "CKII UI Font Mod" to "mod". This gives you a "mod" directory with the .mod file, gfx and interface directories directly within it.

The game does not use mods by default, and on Linux there is no launcher screen that allows you to enable them. To get around this, right click CKII from your library and select Properties. From that dialog, select "Set Launch Options...".

Modify the launch options to be "%command% -mod=mod/CKII_UI_Font_Mod.mod", or if you use bumblebee on your laptop like me "optirun -b primus %command% -mod=mod/CKII_UI_Font_Mod.mod". Click okay and exit the properties window.

Thats it! The game should now launch with actually readable fonts!

Thanks Polygon Dagon, this is super cool. I can't wait to try it out on my laptop. I'm not sure if you know, but has someone posted a guide for customizing the mod? If I open the parameters with notepad, I'd probably royally screw something up.

3vi1 thank you somuch for helping out the linux users like that! That really rocks. I'm trying to work my way backto linux, but need to figure out the best options for my Surface Pro.

Negatus my pleasure! For me this helps quite a bit. However certain fonts and icons remain tiny. I just don't want you to think this fixes everything. Sorry I don't have any info on customizing mods. If I come across it I will certainly post it for you!

Well, I don't often recommend Ubuntu anymore, but the reasons why are positives in your case. They're Unity desktop is very much designed for touch-screen devices. So, that might work best for you. It also doesn't hurt that Valve targets Ubuntu specifically for Steam and their games either.

There's a walk-thru on installing it over at geek.com: http://www.geek.com/microsoft/how-to-install-ubuntu-on-surface-pro-1539262. Just make sure you back up everything first!

And thanks again for posting the mod info so that I can finally try CKII !

Cool deal! this is greatly appreciated. I've got the site bookmarked and am trying to decide between Kali and Ubuntu. Also that Ubuntu Edge phone looks really neat.
thank you so much dude!, i was going nuts,
just bought Crusader Kings 2 and only after 10 minutes was my eyes killing me and i was almost ready to claw them out
none of the tips other suggested for helping with font size helped me either, and paradox site is bugged when registering right now so cant download mods from there

sitting with a 23 inch screen, and nothing could make the fonts bareable in size, despite peoples tips
never seen that tiny letter in a game before
and the buttons too ..sigh,

just need the basic texts in message/history/event/hints windows to be bigger too like the tooltip changes and everything would be golden
great game, but crazy UI

so you really saved me on this 1, thx alot man now i can atleast read the tooltips info smoothly
thx

Thanks a million for providing these instructions, but unfortunately I couldn't seem to get this to work. I purchased CK2 yesterday and found that it installed to ~/.paradoxinteractive/Crusader Kings II/ instead of ~/Documents. I altered your instructions accordingly but still have the goofy hard-to-read fonts. I tried using your launch options in the following configurations:

"%command% -mod=mod/CKII_UI_Font_Mod.mod" (game didn't start like this)
%command% -mod=mod/CKII_UI_Font_Mod.mod (game started, but no change)
-mod=mod/CKII_UI_Font_Mod.mod (game started, but no change)

Was anyone else able to get this mod to work in Linux?

I'm sorry, I don't understand the install instructions for windows. I am using windows 7.
I extracted to C:\Users\username\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\mod

I created the folder "mod" in the above locaiton and extracted there. Have I missed something? I still have microscopic font sizes.

You need to activate the Mod in the launcher.
malchedial Dec 14, 2014 @ 4:43pm
Sorry to be so ignorant. I tried to find the mod in the launcher and I must be doing it wrong. How do I do that?
malchedial Dec 14, 2014 @ 5:09pm
I should have specified: it's not showing up in the mod list.
Evil Crusader Dec 15, 2014 @ 1:24am
Are there a *.mod and a folder or zip file, both bearing the Mod's name? Otherwise you need either.
Caslantienne Mar 5, 2015 @ 11:45am
Personally, it crashes.. :/
