Have you declared war on them? Do you have more troops then they have in their castle? Are you sure you're armies aren't just slowly sieging the castle?

I see nothing, I never declared war, just following the instructions on the tutorial. I had like 400 men on my boats, went to morri every thing was going good then I just stand there. I fast forward and nothing.

do you have to declare war first??
Fwazayum Aug 7, 2013 @ 1:59pm
ou must open the diplomacy screen of someone whom you have a casus belli (cause for war) against, and send a declaration of war. only then will you be able to attack their soldiers, besiege their holdings, etc. You can only attack people you are at war with or the soldiers of pagans raiding your land

you get land when you claim it at the start of the war, as the reason you declared war. then when you win everything you claimed will be given to you (or who you claimed it for). and all land that you didnt claim, even if you captured it, will be given back.
a large part of this game is about making these claims through things like royal marriages etc.

here are the step too making a war happen fighting it & in the end winning it.
Here are steps as followed
1.you find a county you wish too declare war upon.
2.you make a claim on that county or have a right too claim that titled land over towards your de-jure use.
3. you find the county and you click on a scrol next too the portrait the character face then you select declare war.
4. in this declare war menu you may have single, multiple ways too take title land from this selected character, the character will have a ranked name dependent on their religion & their status in that religion & their gender as well so if you play as a catholic or christian ruler you will more than likely have a name like count or countess and earl if your character live in the kingdom of england being the same rank then dukes & duchess, kings & queens, Emperors & empresses for only the catholic faith their are many more named ranks for all the different faiths & religions.
the titled lands that can be claimed can be de-jure mean part of what you should own dependent on your realm or land e.g. the realm of the kingdom of france has a de-jure claim on the duchy of Normandy, all titles can be claim by many number of ways the most obvious is family ties too that land because of a thing called succession laws by this your heirs most likely being your sons in most cases will inherit the lands of the father & or the mother dependent upon marriage.the last bit of this will be you click the declare war menu & if you have a claim on a landed title then you click the desired title then click on the accept button & you shall be at war with this character owning this landed title.

5.the way too win battles & ultimately wars is by destroying armies taking land titles like castles, temples of different faiths & religions, they also have different names dependent on religion as well as cities & all this goes too a tallied score called warscore & it is calculated in percentages% of land armies destroyed & capturing land in most cases as well as capturing enemies characters in battle & capturing the enemy lord results in 100% warscore no matter what your current warscore was & is on the warscore menu.

6. this is the final part of this step by step guide I guess too winning wars.
You may have noticed when you win or lose battles in the warscore icon you see, well actually it's a menu you click the shield at the bottom & there is more ways than one too get too the needed menu & it will all take you where you started off the scroll on the persons portrait or diplomacy menu then you will also see it has changed you should click on the sue for peace menu then you will have 3 options the top option will spellout enforce demands
the second & middle option will spellout white peace, the third and last option will spellout surrender, & the third option will more than likely be an option that may be open too you throughout the war you have waged the second middle option will make it soo you still have the claim & it can be passed onto the next heir in the line of succession & neither side has not brought this matter is unresolved & that basically means both side wiped the slated clean & you will be able to declare war again for the same reason but the first & top one will be an enforcement of demands it will be the claim you pushed for like a claim on a de-jure duchy in your family & it was revoke by your lord & you brought it back into your family succession laws & more importantly will be in your more capable hands. but when you click any of these options it will be the end of the war with whatever proposal you sent it will also take a number of days for the character too respond or it maybe instant on parameters I am unaware of then you will see the results of the proposal in full.

I hope this long winded step by step guide has told or atleast explained to everyone who may or may not know the boundaries & basic concepts of waging wars in crusader kings 2.
