Crusader Kings II

Ver estadísticas:
Get rid of/breed out the stressed trait?
The stressed trait has become fairly genetic in my main dynastic line, it seems: my last four rulers have all had it, and my young son has it too. It also has killed the last two of my kings, one of them only in his fifties. Now I know that's not too bad (and it's not like those kings didn't get to do a lot of awesome things in their reigns), but I'd like to get rid of this trait (without cheats!) if possible. There's probably a random event that can take it away, but in lieu of waiting for that, is there a counter-trait that I could perhaps marry into? As in, could I have my son marry a woman with this as-yet-unfound-by-me counter-trait to break its hold on my menfolk?

Thanks for any help. Have fun playing!

Wow, that's some crappy luck you got there. There's no "counter-trait" to being stressed. It's a health trait and is randomly acquired, so it's not genetic or anything either. There is a random event where you just lose it or another one where a courtier talks to you and calms you down. I haven't looked at the event files to know if it really helps, but content or patient might help lower the chance of the original stressed event firing (A content or patient person probably wouldn't get stressed out as easily.) But that's just a random guess.

Yeah, I'm not sure what you could do either. I've had two characters die in my current game of stress, and both of those people had claims on land that I was fighting for to get them. So, since both of them died under stress, their claims became moot, and the wars ended inconclusively. Maybe the only counter to dying of stress or getting the stress trait is to avoid constant stressers. So maybe continual war, constant claims, unhappy vassels. Again, I have no clue, but this is at least a start. Also, Happycats517 made a good point with the content trait.

Being over demense limit supposedly can give you stressed. It's a problematic trait and getting rid of it is pretty much completely random. You can hope that a content courtier talks to you or your character just snaps out of it.

I've been careful to stay under the demesne limit and have generally gotten all vassals to like me within a few years of taking the throne, so that shouldn't be a problem. I do tend to keep my character educating wards for pretty much his whole life (once his children are adults, I have him either educate their children or the children of prominent vassals). Maybe that could keep the stress up? In any case, it sounds like my best bet is to try to marry patient people and just wait. It's not too bad, though. "Stressed" and "Cynical" are the only negative traits my current king has -- otherwise he's a genius with plenty of virtues, my strongest in "stats" yet.

Suicide is only an option if you have the depressed trait.

my bad than, thanks for correction.

to the OP: you will get stressed if you wont complete your ambition for a long time. So not granding land to your son for like 20 years will make him stressed or maybe even depressed almost for sure.

There is a counter trait, Slothful makes it take 10 times longer to get stressed.

Didn't know it. It may be worth trying. Otherwise, having seduction focus both causes and relieves stress. I've had the relief event (go away with lover) fire even when not stressed, as it's based upon the two characters being lovers, from what I can tell. So if you have a stressed ruler perhaps they just need to get laid.
I just lost stressed due to having a hunting dog (comes from the hunter focus in Way of Life).

I've found the best way is to have content courtiers around, there's a chance an event will fire that removes stressed with them. Other than that, there's not a lot you can do.

I haven't heard anything about it being genetic though.

Hunting, seduction and family focuses can get rid of stressed. When stressed I generally choose a focus with health benefits to offset the effects of stressed.

Yeah, it seemed fairly easy for my Way of Life seducer to lose stressed. He just had to have a lover, and she would offer to spend time with him away. Accept (and risk her husband/your wife finding out) and stressed trait goes away.

If you have multiple lovers you can gain the stressed trait, so this one guy I had gained it and lost it about three times. So seemed to be a fairly common event.

Zombie thread, woohoo! +)

Thanks for the added info. Obviously the game from the original post is long over, and I haven't experienced that same run of the stressed trait in any of my other games. Good to have some added info about the updated game, though. I do play with Way of Life, so some of these options are available to me if the trait starts causing big problems again.
