[Linux] Crashes on startup [SOLVED]
Hi

I have just installed Crusader Kings II from steam but when I try to start the game I just get a black screen, a couple of seconds of music and then it crashes. The lines I can see in the console is:

Game update: AppID 203770 "Crusader Kings II", ProcID 5399, IP 0.0.0.0:0 ERROR: ld.so: object 'gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. Setting breakpad minidump AppID = 203770 Steam_SetMinidumpSteamID: Caching Steam ID: 76561198030736843 [API loaded no] saving roaming config store to 'sharedconfig.vdf' roaming config store 2 saved successfully Segmentation fault Game removed: AppID 203770 "Crusader Kings II", ProcID 5400 saving roaming config store to 'sharedconfig.vdf' roaming config store 2 saved successfully

Here is the output from sysinfo:

I have been experiencing the same problem, so far I have seen some people that managed to solve this issue by removing the two first lines from the /home/user/Steam/SteamApps/common/Crusader Kings II/gfx/FX/standardfuncsgfx.fxh. That didnt work for me. Other solution that I tried was the MacFix from paradox dev team, which also did not work. I am really anxious to play CK2 in linux.

you have to remove the first two AND the last one of this file. This only helps if you are using a mesa / open source driver.
The "mac fix" only helps with crash wile playing the game.

editing that file didn't make one bit of difference. still crashes after playing 1/2 sec of music on a black screen

What is the output from steam's system information? I don't have gsysinfo, this is what my graphic card reads and CKII runs well here:

"Video Card:
Driver: NVIDIA Corporation GeForce GTX 650/PCIe/SSE2

Driver Version: 4.3.0 NVIDIA 310.19
Desktop Color Depth: 24 bits per pixel
Monitor Refresh Rate: 60 Hz
VendorID: 0x10de
DeviceID: 0xfc6
Number of Monitors: 1
Number of Video Cards Not Detected
Primary Display Resolution: 1680 x 1050
Desktop Resolution: 1680 x 1050
Primary Display Size: 18.66" x 11.69" (22.01" diag)
47.4cm x 29.7cm (55.9cm diag)
Primary Bus: PCI Express 16x
Primary VRAM: 1024 MB
Supported MSAA Modes: 2x 4x 8x 16x "

I am of course running the latest stable Nvidia drivers.

Hi

Thanks a lot defiant. Looking at the video card specs I just remembered that I have one of those crappy Optimus cards from NVidia. So running "optirun ./ck2" to start the game fixed the problem.

(For those of you that don't know, the Optimus card is a combi card with both an Intel chip and a NVidia chip and using "optirun" makes the application run on the NVidia chip... ok, that is not entirely correct, but close enough ;-))
