Making a friend (in game)

Hi,

In my 200+ hours of play I once made a friend of one of my vassals. He had a permanent +100 opinion modifier and it listed it simply as "friend." I've looked this up and the most I could find is that it's event based. Does anyone know which event grants this?

It was HUGELY helpful to make a friend like that since he'd defend me in times of open rebellion.

I've gotten this twice before. I'm not completely sure but I believe that a vassal becoming your friend has a chance of occuring when-

A. You and your Vassal were mentored together. (Playing as the king of Ireland my heir and one of my other wards (later the duke of Ulster) became friends. (i believe having at least one or two common traits early on is what does it.)

B. You hold a feast (As the King of Denmark I held a feast and an event popped up after the "I've never met such an interesting person" one stating that you had befriended the vassal in question. )

I kind of remember an event popup where you are having a banquet, and you have the option of inviting someone, who it says is your close friend. You get another popup later that states they made it just on time, and someone else about how they are your friend. Could that be it?

Yes I've seen those events too. I think it mainly occurs as the result of a banquet. In one game I remember my Duke became a friend of the King... wasn't much use as a friend though, he never gave me anything :(

open the console:
add_friend (id of the character that should be your friend)

if you want other charcater in a friednship with anyone
add_friend (id of character 1) (id of character 2)

oh...you can make rivals with this way too.

Only change add_friend to:
add_rival

I miss when feast event scaled with size so you could throw feasts every second year when you where small. It made keeping vassals so much easier. Without feasting the event is extreamly rare unless you take the carousing focus in way of life. Way of Life is truely the power gaming system of CK2.
