Remaking the Kingdom of Pontus
So I'v been trying to do this. I start off as a duke where about pontus started from. and I am a vassle to the byzantine empire. heres were things have gotten a little bit tricky.

I'm very close borders with Armenia, and by close I mean right damn next to them. Also Georgia is close. I'v managed with sheer luck and my Kings skill in battle, Unpredictible and Heavy unit bonuses, to take a bit of land that was my de jure right from Armenia.

I'm thinking yes what a great start! and thats when it happened. My Emperor...the great and powerful... yadda yadda.. decideds to adopt a heresy of iconoclast. Now he's taiking dutchies and lands from his vassels left and right. I'm trying to stay in favour with him. but its not working to well because he's a jerk.

This is probably one of the hardest times I'v had, I have to time my wars because if the empire is at war with the sunni's then I'll have stacks of 8000 to 10,000 just going back and forth. my little army of about 1200 would quikcly be dispatched of in such a situation.

but mark my words pontus will rise again. Any suggestions on what you think I should do?

convert to his religion/culture when leige changes it will prevent him taking your stuff. And if you convert in time he may give you some of the love ie in lands.

Most likely even if he likes you, hell either ask you to convert or request ttles from you.
I had my BE emperor go heretic and started revoking left and right.
I quickly started a faction against him and declred indep.

being a hertic is more stable empire less rebels once everyone converts to it.
