Emperor vs King?
So I began an Old Gods game as the King of the Magyars and eventually I became the King of Hungary and conquered huge amounts of land. I could become the Emperor of Carpathia whenever I want, but I'm not sure if I should. Currently as King, I have a lot of small vassals that absolutely love me, so what would the advantage of becoming an emperor be?

managing as king is easier than managing as Emperor, about all you really get from emperor is the ability to grant your kingdom away

If see 3 major advantages. When you die, your successor will remain the de jure liege of the majority of your current holdings since he'll gain the emperor title. It is not the case if, for example, you hold multiple king titles since they may be split among your childrens. You gain more prestige per month been an emperor and your retinue cap will increase. You will also be able to press claim of your vassal for king titles and remain their liege.

Yeah, the main thing is if you want to stay king you can make another king title and hold both titles until succession, then you split even if you are on primogeniture, or ultimogeniture. If you are emperor you can have many kingdoms, and they will all drop to you(your heir). You could just not make another king title, and expand and never make emperor title, but if thats the case you could just stay a duchy, and make much more prestige off holding unlimited duchy titles.

I personally feel that making the king title doesn't have enough advantage if you hold many duchy titles, but the king to emperor does if you hold many, or potentially hold many kingdoms.

The only downside to being Emperor rank is it removes any form of challenge. You earn presitge quickly, and you're allowed to have an entire kingdom to yourself which make it very easy to put down rebellions.

I normally play empire as I play king, and just destroy all king level titles. The benefit being a cool hat and more prestige.

as king you can de jure all the dukes to be under your kingdom makeing all other kingdoms trilular which you can then give to self for huge family pretige.

Emperor's also have a larger demesne and faster research.

being an emperor means you re usual just hours away from quiting your playthrough for good...^^
that said, it really simplifies things once you own 2/3 of europe and gets you more prestige
rebellions are easy to overcome, jail the rebel king, grant his title to some content dunce and you re good for 30 years

emperor can be fun but you have to restrict yourself to some homemade rules if you want to enjoy it(like, don t raise all your troops, just italians ones to help your friend the king of croatia, otherwise there are no more surprises nor challenge)

we all want a cool hat at some point, but after awhile, it s just a hat and nobody can take it away from you

Being an Emperor just means you can reduce the amount of vassals, but only grant kingdoms if your Empires big enough.
