Which one is charlamagne?
This is probably a stupid question, but which king is Charlamagne? Karloman or Karl?

Second question, why isn't his name Charlamagne, was that just some made up historical name?

His name will change to Charles after you created the HRE

Karl he will change his name if all the events fired later on.
Just play it :) see if you can emulate his history or not.

It didn´t work for me lol, and in all my past runs the AI never once formed the HERE .
Others it did, but for me never.
Charles just created the Lollard empire of Francia.. He then proceeded to conquer the entire Italian peninsuela and died, his heirs constantly appointing Anti-Popes but never deposing the current Catholic pope. His heirs became Fraticelli btw.

There's now five concurrent Empires in the game and I think the Khazars and Indians are blobbing enough at this rate to create another two.. I'm convinced the Scandinavians will eventually form their empire as well, they've never failed.
This is a pretty interesting game, lol.

I was confused about who exactly Charlemange would be myself, but since this guy just shows up and creates an empire, I was pretty sure his name was Charles!

To answer the second question, Charlemagne means Charles the Great (Charles le Magne)

The King of France(ia).

I understand the confusion, because Charlemagne ruled over such a vast Empire he had many names. In game he starts as the King of West Francia. Charlemagne was an early french derivative from his Latin name, Carolus (or Karolus) Magnus. In English known as Charles the Great as Magnus is Latin for "the great". Ingame you can simply named Karl.

Carloman or (Karloman) is his brother who ruled over Middle Francia.

Karl Karling. Karloman is his brother.

Karl in German = Charles in French. In German, Charlemagne is known as Karl der Grosse, or Charles the Great. Charlemagne is a made up name, but it really means Charles Magnus. Magnus means great in Latin. His name is still a point of contention in Europe, so I guess they just decided to use them both to avoid contraversy.
