Incapable is Terribly Frustrating
Okay seriously i love this game I really do but when it becomes terrible it can be so frustrating. Oh a random death in a winning battle, Oh sudden random illness and death, Oh and then I have to play my child heir that gets taught to be cynical by a mastermind theologian. This game. This has happened so many times. I play ironman because I refuse to cheat either way really but I've been playing a great game as Mali (which can be rather hard) and out of nowhere I'm winning a battle 2000 vs 700 and boom I become incapable. I feel like becoming incapable in battle should be more rare and should really never happen in a winning battle/victory. I immediately died afterward and am forced to play a 6 year old. Rant done.

I agree, it's terribly frustrating. It's however also pretty feasible that you, as an incapable ruler would be just a pawn to your envious regent.. making it a really unlucky event.

A good ruler always meets his foes head-on, even more so if you're outnumbering the enemies. Now, depending on the martial skill of your character and that of your foes, i'd say it makes a lot of sense you could become wounded or incapable.

Dying while incapable is a blessing in disguise really, at least people will respect that 6 year old when he's adult for not being a new ruler!

Ya I was definitely glad I died I just am sad that well 1. I didn't have time to remove my other kids from inheritance (elective gavelkind) and 2. As this 6 year old I can't educate myself and factions rise to rebel so I mean it was a lose-lose situation but its definietly better as the 6 year old.

I think that incapable, maimed… should be there, but they should appear more when you are losing, I don’t find it logic that your general get those like when you are whining overwhelming.

And I have seen it often as you describe and is so annoying.

That’s a fairy tale, even Hannibal and Scipion even when “in battle” had a good retinue of body guards and were in the back, so since those ancient times to a General to be killed would be very bad luck or because things were very bad, never in normal circumstances when they were wining unless they did something really really stupid.

My solution: Never lead armies

Yeah you might get brave, or some prestige but it isnt worth the risk in my eyes.

But having high martial skill is amazing. The max levies for example with 1 martial may be 1200 troops but with an 8 martial it jumps to 2300 in my experience at least with Mali.

i agree again; plus you start to become each time better general with nice traits.

usually i only lead when i have a "safe heir"

One time I got captured and lost to a jihad.

I'd rather let my character die, also become incapable afterward.

heir is a genius though.

That's smart I think I'll start only leading armies once my heir is 16 and educated.

The last time i had an incapable character his wife became his regent and this is how things went down....

"Whats that dear? You want to give me control of your duchy and counties overseas and grant some of your vassals independence, lower crown authority, and change inheiritence to seniority?"

*drool*

"Well, if thats what the king wants, its what the king wants."

"Oh by the way husband, i want my independence"

*drool*

"Thanks!"

Lost a big chunk of the land i had recently gained, pretty much every faction fired off causing several vassals to go independent, and royally screwing the kingdom into having kings who die every 3 years cause they are so old.

But you get that boost to levy numbers for being a king with high martial, regardless of whather you are leading the army. Just get your best martial generals to educate your heirs, have the heirs lead armies when adults to make the armies effective (and possibly improve, but it hardly ever seems to happen) and as soon as your surviving capable heir becomes ruler, have him sit at home with his high martial boosting levy numbers, and educate the next generation of heirs.

Just be careful of culture changes when first getting your best generals to educate your heirs (make sure the generals are same culture as yours). Once each generation of rulers and heirs educates the next, the culture problem goes away.

Well... this game always throw you some curve balls when you doing things really good.

I had the exact situation as you and just don't get detered. Play on and situation will usually resolve in a bit.. yes you may lose a few title here and there.. just become emperor and vassal them. IF it doesn't work.. fight and unified your kingdom again.
vytarrus May 7, 2015 @ 11:25am
Srsly, that games' RNGesus is something... I needed my character to die, so I started leading every battle possible. That f*cker lived 15 years, survived like 5 wars and numerous battles, and died natural death at 65+.

65+ you lucky? read my review of the game. i had a character that's 65 and i start to become tyrant at the end to sort out my duchy and count.

And wow i had to be tyrant for a 30 years because my character just refuse to die.
Gefilte Fish May 7, 2015 @ 1:27pm
Yea... the game can be frustrating often. It seems that every ruler I play as becomes either depressed, stressed, or both at some point in his life. Is the chance to become depressed or stressed passed down from generations the same way that "Quick" or "Genius" is? I don't see any other logical way to explain it.

...but other than the little things, the game is very enjoyable. :ambition:
