I dont get how i plot to assasinate
So I have this sucking vassal in my realm that is quite pissed about not being king himself. I need to get rid of him, that's for sure. I started a plot to assasinate him but somehow nothing happens. I have a base rating of 23% + 11% coming from my spymaster. The game is running for years now and nothing is happening.

Can someone please explain how this system works?

You need well over 200% and maybe after 30 years of plotting if nobody blabs.

Edit:

Invite people to your plot. In the intrigue menu at top is a button to click to invite people.

If you have already started to plot against him, as in going to intrigue and pick a plot and him, you'll see a potential plot power. The lower it is, the longer it will take. Far as I know, you can't execute a plot alone, so you'll need to invite someone into the plot. For me, I click the auto-invite to plot button on the top right of the intrigue menu and watch as any interested people come to back you up so you can pool together the plot to kill your target.

That comes with its drawbacks however, as the bigger your pool is, the bigger the chance someone would either have a change of heart or get drunk and spill the beans, which would give you a harsh penalty for being ratted out.

That being said, if everything goes smoothly, you'll get an event where one of your co-inspiritors will execute the plan from a variety of options. Like snakes, "uncontrollable" carriages, and poison to name a few.

keep in mind, you can still be ratted out, but if you are willing to take a chance, you'll find that getting a black mark in your record in exchange for killing your target might be not be that bad of a trade-off to get rid of someone terrible.

Just be careful, as the guy's family might be a bit pissed off if you kill one of their own.

Thanks for the hints, i still dont quite understand... What does the percentage say exactly?

I tried to invite others, but I they are all thumbed down. What do I have to do to win some supporters?!

You can bribe them or move your councillor to improve relations or spymaster to spread roumers (often both).

I think 300% = 3% chance per year to kill, I could be off.

way off. at 300% i get spam flooded with assassination attempts. 3 a week, most of them coming through the pipe on the same day.

at 100% i seem to fire off one attempt every year or two.

sending your spymaster to "build spy network" in the county that your target lives in will boost plot power

you pretty much need 100% for a chance at the plot firing in a reasonable timeframe.

Get them to like you and hate the guy you're trying to kill, basically.

Green thumbs will join your plot and can be invited manually or using the auto-invite button. Yellow thumbs will join the plot if you bribe them first. Red thumbs won't join.

If all of the potential conspirators are red thumbs, don't bother. You won't get the minimum plot power.

Less than 100% and the plot won't fire. You won't get an attempt. You might, however, drive the target into hiding if you have the Charlemagne DLC. Hiding has negative effects on opinion and diplomacy. I've seen it happen when I forgot to end the plot after checking to see if there were enough conspirators. This might be useful infomenting rebellions. Just start a plot, don't invite anyone and see if you can force them into hiding.

At 100% plot power attempts will be made. They might succeed, but less than 150% it is likely that you'll fail and be discovered. Try to get the plot power above 150% or consider giving up. Failing over and over is really bad, since you'll get a -10% on opinion from every vassal for "dishonorable" each time you fail. Above 200%, you are likely to succeed.

The traits and stats of the conspirators have an effect on whether or not the plot is discovered. Gregarious is not a good trait for a conspirator. A gregarious, greedy drunkard is going to spill the beans on the plot every time. Good traits for conspirators are shy, paranoid, diligent, etc. although this is only anecdotal and based on the experiences of others. There is no solid proof that these things really do matter. One thing is true, the more conspirators you have, the more likely you are to be discovered.

Red thumbs can turn green with a small bribe most of the time, but you don't want to invite "just anybody" because all plotters with a low intrigue score, while they add to your plot power also have a chance to "blab" at the tavern, ruining the plot (through an event). If your plot has some 200-400 plot power, go for it, invite the whole country. If you can get 100-150%, you are better being conservative and using your spymaster/councillor to assist the effort.

My incorrect guess of 300% was based on going about 20 years on a plot (consistently) with 200% plot power. I have never actually gotten to 300%, but that was my guess and the people who corrected me are right.

Meh, plot power is iffy at best, see the catch is most people with high power have like 5+ people and most your plots are done by people with low plot power, get lucky and snag a big plot power person, and you can do it with under 100. My last one before I got pist about a brother inherting my capital instead of the heir, I did one with 80 plot power, only one other backer, took less then 2 years, got the guy on the first try by some kind of miracle. But the last one I had 200%+ with I had so many people in the plot, that idiots kept spilling the beans about the plot, and some how only the low plot people were coming up with plans, so it took like 7 years.

But if you can turn the spymaster, a spouse, or the marshal its freaking amazing how quick they go down, and how little you need to invite to the plot. I think my best one yet was killing an heir of a rival so I could push weak claim for my wife and some one not sure who had 100%+ plot power, I didn't even bother inviting any one else.
