bishop's loyalty
so i notice some of my bishops are loyal to a kaiser of the holy roman empire. the major confusion i have currently is they have 17 opinion of him and 100 of me.

why the hell are they giving me no taxes or levies? obviously opinion of me is far better so how are they loyal to a ruler somewhere else?

i used plot to kill off one of them and the guy who replaced the bishop is loyal to the same kaiser. all bishops who are loyal to him have 17 opinion towads him yet have 100 or near 100 with me. super confused right now so can anyone explain this or is this a bug?

well in the end my ruler shalll be pissed at any bishop who has high opinion of me vs who they are loyal to. all those bishops will be murdered

one thing i just thought of adding for more info. there is no antipope in place anywhere and i am a duke of the kingdom of hungary. i also have demense size of 5/4 but i dont understand how the bishops would become loyal to someone else since the -10 to vassals has little affect on opinion

no one has any info about this? another bishop switched loyalty to the kaiser even tho i have 100 opinion with him and his opinion of kaiser is like 40ish.

i been murdering them off now but anyone who replaces the bishop is loyal to the kaiser also

im taking a pretty good sized vassal levy loss because of this

Are you and the kaiser heretics? Catholics? It does not make sense that they are loyal to him in the first place, they can only be loyal to the Pope... I guess this is puzzling me as much as everyone else. Unless your bishoprics are actually owned by him... but that does not make any sense either.

i started in hungary so all my counties are in the catholic religion group. only one of my bishops are loyal to me but it atleast shows he would be loyal to pope if his opinion of pope got higher.

one county did get religion switched to heresy but i got it converted back pretty quick. so if i only had one bishop loyal to the kaiser maybe that heresy conversion could be the answer but 4 out 5 of my bishops are loyal to the kaiser and thats with me having 100 opinion with them and they only got about 40 to him.

the pope hat that indicates opinion towards pope is dark instead of white. they all have the same opinion points, it started at 13 now they are all 40. when i kill off a bishop his replacement starts with same opinion towards kaiser and is loyal to him. i have killed off like 3-4 bishops and so far same result.

UPDATE: no idea what started this problem but after pope died and got replaced, everything is back to normal.

also something i think worth mentioning. i killed off another bishop. the guy who took his place first was loyal to the kaiser, after a small amount of time passed i checked the religion tab again, he was back to normal it showed his opinion of pope vs me

Ok, I figured it out. This applies if the HRE has conquered Rome and installed their pope. The reason HRE is getting taxes from some bishops and cardinals is because they like the current pope more than they like us. The screen shows are comparison between the ruler of HRE and us and we see the bishop like us more than HRE so why aren't we getting his tax? If you cursor over the greyed out antipope button next to the bishop(s) in question, you will see a pop up text that says some thinking like "The bishop likes the pope (100) more than you (100)"

So that is why we are not getting their tax. HRE is getting all the papal money because they conquered rome.

I am having the same problem. I think there is some kind of new bug in the game that wasn't there in the past when I played a year or more ago. I select a bishop in my list and it says this in the note:

Catholic bishops are not obliged to pay taxes - or provide levies - to their secular liege. They will pay the Pope, their secular liege, or even an Antipope depending upon who they like best.

Ok, ok so I hover over the red bishops hat icon and it says:

Loyal to Keiser Gautselin II. Opinion: 35
Opinion of Liege: 69

All my bishops have a higher opinion of me than Keiser Gautselin II, but he gets all the taxes and I can't raise any troops either. I might as well not even have any bishoprics. Its not like I can do anything to stop HRE from capturing the Pope. HRE is an unstoppable steam roller that does whatever it feels like.
