How to become king as duke?
Just started testing this game out and i took on the duke of lothian in scotland in 1066 scenario.

Realised that i have way more territory than my liege, the king of scotland. Hence i am trying to figure out how to overthrow him and become king myself? Can anyone help me with this? :D

And the price for CK2 on steam in like 150 dollars for the bundle. Is this game really that worth it or should i wait for a sale or something? :P

if you can wait, hold on until they have some sale, i got some of the add-on at discounted price last christmas.

off the top of my head, i think you need 2 of more duke titles (maybe 3) to form a kingdom (you also need to spend some gold and prestige too) you can check by clicking on your county, click on the de-jure and clicked on the duchy and click on the de-jure kingdom - need to have more than 51% of duke title and some other conditions too.
but since you have a liege, i think you cannot form the kingdom of scotland unless you overthrow him.

you can check wiki on this game, there are lot's of info there.'
also, you can search this forum for earlier ost, most of them should be relevant.

If u control more than 51% of the kingdom u can usurp it from the actual king :D

To create a kingdom you need two duchies and 50% of the territory of the de jure area of the kingdom. But if you are a vassal it doesn`t matter if the king just sits on one county; you can`t usurp him without a strong claim on the crown and a declaration of war.
When you start as the duke of Lothian you first need to fabricate a claim on the crown of Scotland by forming a plot. Once you have done that you can launch a civil war and if you win you will be made king.

Ok cheers. Anyway i became king in just 4 years and this was what happened.

First, i plotted to install an elective monarchy in scotland. All except one count vassal of the scottish king joined me and i successfully pressed my demand.

Next, a count vassal who liked me a lot formed a faction to install me as king. I joined and he left soon after. Soon, the scottish king declared war on some territory west of scotland (i am also using the no casus belli mod) and i took this chance to press my demand.

Obviously he did not accept but i manage to crush his divided army and become king myself.
Imprisoned him and then executed him for good measure as well lol X.D
