Has anyone ever opened those "strange chests" mentioned while looting?

It says the chest is made of unknown metal and my men have been unable to force it open. The one option to proceed at the bottom is "One day,t hat chest will be opened, mark my words."

What's this about? Is it an event where if your character is Strong you can get another option where you open it for Prestige or something? Or is it that some centuries later you might re-encounter the chest in the body of your nth-generation descendant?

I'm pretty sure those are the chests you get the +2 axe out of (increases your martial by 2)

it's usually just 10 gold. i dont know if its more, but it might. check the files and look at the triggers

isn't there a cthulu event line that you can get at one point, on the subject of wierd and wonderful events?

Yeah, have the learning focus, build an observatory, and take the option that grants 5 prestige (the option with 10 prestige opens the Heliocentrism chain). That opens up the Necronomicon chain. Fun times.

If you loot a province, sometimes you'll get an event saying you got a box that you can't open. There's a chance in subsequent lootings that you'll get another event giving you a key, which prompts another event to open it. There's like a 50% chance there's nothing but useless scrolls inside, a 49% chance of some quantity of gold, and a 1% chance of "Oh God, don't look into the light!"

I'm guessing it means you die.
