Ironman: A beginner's guide & Myth-busting
Hi, everyone!

I'm Falk0. Some may recognize me from a multiplayer game, others may recognize me from my posts on the CKII steam forum. I am indeed fairly active on this forum, I am very devoted to this game and always glad to help out when I can.

There are many questions and there is lot of incorrect or incomplete information surrounding Ironman mode on the steam forum. That's why I decided to make my very firsts guide on this topic.

I invite you all to read it and leave your thoughts and constructive critiques either in this topic or on the comment section of my guide and rate it accordingly.

Also feel free to mention any information that may be relevent to the topic that I failed to included.

I thank you all in advance.

Game does NOT save after decisions, battles etc.
Only on trying to exit the game via normal means, Jan 4th and July 4th. and unless you specifically tell the game to save to cloud, it will save ironman games locally.

After double checking I can confirm Ironman does save after decisions and after several events such as birth of your child or death of current character. Saving after battles was indeed a mistake.

I can tell you, it does not. Saving takes about a minute for me in late game and it saves only once every 6 months. Only in EU4 does it save so often.

Have an Ironman currently and my King died.
There was no autosave.

The wikia entries for CK2 are not always up to date ;)

That's true. I've changed laws, created and destroyed titles, transferred vassals, celebrated the death of my character, yet the only saves were in january, july and upon exit.
