try switching to a european culture, and see what happens.
not sure if that would override the family name thing, but it's worth a shot, as i have that one, and am a zorastorian persian ruling the persian empire, in a bit i'll test it.
the OP said ruler designer, but ther meant customizer DLC. when you use it, it lists the empire name and the "adjective". the empire name is "the persian empire", and the adjective (in my game) is "Abbasid". it will NOT accept any changes made to the adjective, and keeps "Abbasid"
i think most of us assumed it was only something tied to having muslem religion, it might also apply to zorastorians. it might also be tied to middle eastern cultures.
as i dont mind "abbasid" on the map, and my game is ironman, i am not going to switch to greek to test. sorry.
Thank you for your responses.
I can't say whether or not it applies to all Middle Eastern cultures, but it definitely applies to Persian Zoroastrians. It's really unfortunate that this seems to be mandatory. I'd much rather have the actual kingdom/empire names.
I'm also playing on Iron Man, so going through the trouble of switching cultures only to potentially switch the Kingdom name back once returning to my original culture doesn't seem practical.
I guess I'll just edit my dynasty to "Persia".
Didn't look at your profile. I would hope you would with that amount of play time haha!

To be sure your mod contains any new changes from the latest version of the game it needs to be made from freshly edited base game files for that version, which is why I include the above link that describes how to do it. Here's a download link to one I made for the current version (2.3.3):

To use it you unzip it in My Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II, then you start Crusader Kings II and on the page where you select the DLCs to use you need to click on the Mod tab and enable it by checking it. You cannot earn Steam achievements while you have any mods enabled. If you don't want to use the mod then start the game without that mod checked.
You should start a new game to use with the mod. I think most of the names are determined and placed in your save file at the very start of the game so the mod needs to be in at that time to affect all of the names.
Some mods are allowed. Check "remove baby cries" and "remove ambient noise", those are must-have and are compatible
Terms like "Persia" and "Iran" basically mean "land of the Persians" or "land of the Aryans" respectively. The idea of using "Persia" to describe the kingdom/empire itself is a bit anachronistic, because the kingdom was generally associated with the dynasty who ruled it, not the culture and language of the people who lived there.

Yeah, but if the customization pack allows me to rename England "Big Booty Town", I don't think giving the option to display the Kingdom/Empire name instead of the dynasty name through the same DLC is anymore ahistorical or anachronistic.
Anywho, thanks for all the responses people. I guess I'm just out of luck when playing Ironman.
