If you feel like you are powerful enough, you can make an Independence faction with the faction system. There's a tab named "Faction" at the top of your screen.

If other vassals of your liege wants to, they can join you. Make them like you to increase the chance (or target those that do not like your liege).

You don't really need anyone to help you if you are powerful enough, but if you fail the war, you do get imprisoned by your king.

People will join your faction automatically if they like you and dislike your liege (and desire Independence). Make sure the faction you joined is an Independence faction. Often there will only be "Lower Crown Authority" factions, or pretender factions.

And thanks ALOT :)
You ask the Americans for help to arrange a coup against your current liege, you just have to have good relations and have the stat "Democratic Capitalist" on your character and they should accept

If your primary title is de jure your king's primary title (i.e. if your king is the king of England and you are the Duke of Norfolk or something) and you are not "content", you can also plot to fabricate a claim on it directly. It's quite a hard plot to pull off because people tend to be very wary about joining "fabricate claim" plots, but once it's done you get a strong inheritable claim. You can also do the same thing by inheriting a claim normally (i.e. marry yourself or your heir to a woman who will get an inheritable claim on the kingdom and wait until you are playing their child, who will eventually inherit a claim when their mother dies - naturally or otherwise).

If you have any claim, you can actually start a faction to put yourself on the throne directly without having to go through all the hassle of getting independence then conquering land from your former liege etc.

Alternatively you contact your liege and request that he begin imposing taxation without represention. Your people will collaborate to become entirely indepedent instead of attempting to accomplish their goals in a civil way. They will then establish representatives to represent them in the government whom will actually only represent themselves rather than the people who put them there. Thereby putting them back at square one. Oh wait...
