this is different from the aztecs. the mongol events for getting their event troops and declaring an invasion have a cut off date where after that date they wont happen and they wont invade

as for kings i used to keep kings around before the "vassal king" opinion penalty. you should avoid kings in your de jure empire because they'll desire the empire. also its easier to keep them happy if you have elective succession because it makes vassals happy as long as you dont have too many elector titles
