However, it appears to be bugged at the moment.
Right click on the rivers as with oceans. Only big ones though like the Ganges and Seigne.
I haven't played as someone capable of looting recently, but I've heard there were some issues with it, so you might have trouble even then...
And sailing ships up rivers, you should be able to just select the ships and click on the river.
It's only the big rivers that you can sail down. Elbe, Rhine etc. If you look closely at them you'll see each acts as a tiny sea zone.
Also, why the hell isn't The Nile a major river? That would make Abyssinia so much less of a pain in the ass to conquer.
is it because of the nile delta? the main river seperating out into smaller channels before reaching the ocean?
Honestly, they should be able to sail up just about any river. In terms of balance it would be incredibly broken. That aside, The Nile is the largest river in the world. They need to make it traversable.
That would explain why the AI never seems to raid me anymore hehe
And yeah you have to turn raiding on in your own lands and then go where you want to raid. You can, however, turn it off at any time, which is sometimes handy.
A lot of the major/minor rivers thing seems like balance issues, also historical precedent. I'm not sure why India has major rivers given that they're almost never going to be used, but I'm guessing it's because it was produced after Old Gods and thus required no retrofitting.
And hey, if we're going for accuracy here it also makes no sense that norse Christians can't traverse rivers.
